Adoption and Driving Conviction?
Find answers to your legal question.

Adoption and Driving Conviction?

Are u able to adopt in the UK if you have a driving conviction and lost your license in the past.
My husband and I are very settled, in good jobs, he's a police officer and I also have a very good job and neither of us have any criminal convictions however I have a driving conviction for failing to provide a specamin of breath.
Would i still be able to adopt??
What other types of checks do they do on you in the UK??
I want a baby so badly, we are trying for one of our own but we would also like to adopt, any help or advice would be appreciated x

Must express that there is absolutely no alcohol abuse on the part of myself or my husband, infact we hardly drink at all, if our for dinner i'll have a glass of wine but thats really it so all would be fine at doctors xx

They check absolutely EVERYTHING, my husband adopted our son last year and his driving ban was just up at the time and that was for drink driving, it all went through OK, i dont think they expect people to be squeaky clean, just descent human beings who are able to love and care for children, your whole history is looked into theres nothing that can be hidden as they find it all out, it took my hubby just under a year to adopt our son but it was all worth going through, good luck and you will be fine xx

In the UK if that is the only black mark in your past it would probably be ok. But keep in mind the average age of an adoptee in the UK is 4. It is very rare to get an infant.

yes a driving offence is ok.

If you failed to provide a breath sample, that would mean you being checked for alcohol.

That may be one reason for authorities to need to look further to see if there is excessive alcohol use which would pose a problem. It depends on whats in your medical records. There is also a medical examination and a report from your doctor. It is something you will have to declare.

It is a lovely idea to adopt an unwanted child, you couldn't do a better act of affection, care and love. I wish you every success.
