Adoption as an alternative instead of an abortion..?
|
There are many couples that are unable to conceive a child and want to adopt one. The women taht cannot care for the baby should give their children up for adoption to families who are willing to take care of the baby..Currently in the u.s., 400,000 couples who cannot have children are trying to adopt..
i need help coming up with more things on adoption for my paper.
why it is important that a mother give her child up for adoption instead of having an abortion!!!
please help =)

If there are 400,000 couples looking to Adopt than why are there kids still available for ADOPTION in Foster Care?
If a Natural parent is unable to pick and choose children WHY on earth do Adopters think they should be able to?....Entitlement or do they think they are above Nature?.
Adoption isn't an alternative nor solution to abortion....that's just your infertility talking nonsense. |

Nobody is responsible for supplying a child for the infertile.
Abortion and adoption have NOTHING to do with each other, period.
Abortion is the decision of whether or not to continue a pregnancy.
Adoption is the decision of whether or not to parent your child.
I don't give a rat's *** about the thousands of infertile people, children are NOT GIFTS to be given out like toasters to strangers. |

=o( This question makes me sad. Why do you assume that a woman contemplating abortion would automatically relinquish her child for adoption? Nine months of pregnancy is a very long time, and with proper counseling and help finding the resources and support would very likely parent their child. The statistical amount of women who actually relinquish their child at birth is very low.
Because seriously, this path is not unicorn farts and daisy spit. Relinquishing a child is serious business and totally affects the mother and the child in unintended ways for not only their lifetimes, but generationally too.
I was not a breeder cow for some sad story of infertility and it really saddens me when people suggest that others do the same. |

"Currently in the u.s., 400,000 couples who cannot have children are trying to adopt.."
Well then maybe you should get pregnant, give birth, and hand over your baby to one of these unfortunate couples. Then come back here and tell us how you feel. |

There are 3.5 million children in foster care/group homes in the US. There are an estimated 250 million children in orphanages/group homes throughout the world. Adoption is NOT a solution to abortion. |

Abortion is an alternative to pregnancy. Adoption is an alternative to parenting.
>Currently in the u.s., 400,000 couples who cannot have children are trying to adopt<
And there are about 1 million abortions annually. If all 1 million of those children had been born, and 400k adopted, what about the other 600k? Also remember that is PER YEAR. There are not 400k more people looking to adopt every year, are there?
And what of the percentage of those 1 million babies that are not born healthy and are therefore less likely to be adopted? The foster care system is already filled, and many of those kids age out without being adopted...eliminating abortion would add several hundred thousand children to the child welfare system annually. |

So what your saying is that since a woman is going to get rid of her baby anyway maybe she should be forced to carry that child and do something good and selfless with her life by giving them away as an I'm sorry prize.
Personally if I was one of those couples who is experiencing problems with conception, I would be asking myself why it is sooooooo many people are having this problem and who is responsible for it. It's not a fluke. There is a reason for it, and someone IS responsible.
Back to my criticism of your post. You have not given ANY THOUGHT WHAT SO EVER to what's in it for the child or the woman who has to go through this pregnancy. ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS making other couples happy. Here's what I suggest. YOU have 400,000 children and give them alll away. Since your "people" are not interested in foster care where children are waiting and needing homes. You do it. |

As many other people have said, adoption and abortion have nothing to do with each other. I am against abortion in most cases, but is adoption really any better? With adoption, babies and children are torn from their biological familes and often forced to live a lie. I think these mothers who can't raise a child for whatever reason, should be provided with alternatives. There has to be a better solution than either aborting a baby or giving a baby up for adoption. Either way, the child is the one who gets hurt and the one who suffers, not to mention the feelings of the mother from either decision.
I do believe adoption is a great thing for those people who can't have children. I happen to be a person who should never have my own children because of medical reasons. So I understand the pain of couples who can't have children. But there are thousands and thousands of children in foster care who don't have a home. Children in foster care are the children who are the ones who really need the homes. Most couples want babies, which is why there are so many couples waiting to adopt. If a couple really wanted to help a child, they would adopt any child, regardless of age. Adoption has become more about what the couple wants, not what the child needs, which is why there are so many children in foster care awaiting homes and a loving family. |

Last I checked, there is no onus on the fertile women of the world who end up with unwanted pregnancies to become a walking uterus for those who can't conceive. I imagine the number of people waiting for a child would be drastically reduced if they would turn to foster care, but nope, I'd bet a good chunk of that 400k are looking for an infant. I guess only infants are worthy of a loving home? *said with tongue firmly in cheek*
Adoption isn't this miracle solution to unwanted pregnancies. What of the woman who would be forced into being a brood mare? |

there are many logical fallacies in your assertion. first, you've omitted a huge intervening variable: reproductive automony. in other words, attempting to connect someone's reproductive choice (which includes going through a pregnancy, labor and childbirth) with an unrelated entity's inability to conceive is exploitive.
now, try doing some research and not asking us to do your homework.

It is important that the woman parent her own child and not have to grieve for the next 50 years, wondering if that child is alive or dead.
Open adoptions aren't enforceable.

I have a great idea that is win-win-win. Why not make unemployed women breed babies for the government and then have the government sell them to infertile couples? It gives unemployable women a noble occupation, the government can reduce the deficit, and the wonderful infertile couple gets a shiny new infant that is the color of their choice.
Oh wait - I forgot - what about the adopted persons? What to do? Maybe, we could just lock their real birth certificates away so the adoptive parents can pretend that THEY gave birth to the child. Great idea!
No need to thank me.

It isn't 'important.' It's a choice that some women make, for various reasons. Just as other women choose abortion. And others choose to keep and raise the child.
Of course it's a lovely thing if a woman is willing to go through 9 months of pregnancy and then relinquish the child. But it isn't something that we can, or should require. Any more than we could require you to give up your kidney to provide a transplant for person with bad kidneys, or require you to donate blood or bone marrow. |

This isn't my opinion at all but you could say:
1. Abortion takes a negative situation (an unwanted pregnancy) and makes it worse. (murdering an unborn baby) Adoption takes an unwanted pregnancy and makes a situation that fits all (the child gets to live; the mother knows she did the right thing; the couple that adopts the child gets a child)
2. If abortion is legal people might think "oh well I can always have an abortion. Why use protection?" Adoption is more complicated and while it is rewarding in the end it teaches people to be more careful.
3. With abortion we're sending the message that if you're unwanted you should be dead. With adoption we send the message that no one is unwanted.

Once again this isn't my opinion but it's fun to argue the other side! :-) |

I'll tell you why it is nessisary....because if my son was aborted then I would have never gotten to adopt the most wonderful boy god has created. I would have never known the warmth of his smile or his kisses and hugs. I would never know what its like to hear Mommy first thing in the morning. |
