Adoption fashion?

Do you think adoption has become like a fashion trend or something? I mean, there seems to be more kids being adopted out. Do you think there is something wrong here? Do you think more trips to the family planning clinic are in order? Additional Details Yeah i should have made that clear. I do mean that people should be going to family planning clinics rather than having unwanted children. I think contraception is important. And yes SUNNY i do still think adoption is onderfull. This question doesnt mean I think otherwise!

I hope the reason is that more people are seeing the need to provide a home for children that need one. And some years back every celebrity in Hollywood was running out and adopting several kids. I think that brought the thoughts about adoption to a lot of people that wouldn't necessarily given it any consideration at all. I don't agree with celebs going overseas to adopt children when there are so many here that need homes, but I do have an opinion as to why they do it. I think most celebs are afraid to adopt from the US because if the birth parents happen to be losers they may cause a lot of trouble for the celeb in the future once they have bonded with the child. Perhaps they feel safer with an ocean between them and the bio parents.
But I do think that was a trend. One celeb, then another, etc. Then people followed the fashion just like they do in clothes. I think it was and is a good thing. There are so many people out there that would be wonderful parents to a homeless child, but for whatever reason it might not occur to them to look into it without hearing or reading about it.
So to answer your other question about family planning clinics, and I agree they are about birth control not abortion, I do not think more children are being born and not wanted or for another reason going into the system. I believe more people are opening their eyes to these needs and are taking steps to help by adopting a child.
Thank you for a great question. |

The reason for children being placed for adoption very from case to case. Sometimes the parents aren't in a position to care for them, they have been abused, some are simply not wanted by the birth parents, the reasons go on. As well so does the reasons for wanting to adopt. Although educating about birth control is good it is still not going to stop all unwanted pregnancies. As for trendy I would hope no one is adopting so they can display their child like a new purse or something. For the one that said if you can't go through labor you shouldn't have kids boy do you need an education. The point is there always has been and their always will be children that can't be raised by their bio's for one reason or another, and it is a good thing that there are people out there who are willing to open their hearts and homes and want to make a family with them. |

some times children are put up for adoption not because they don't want them but some times because they are unable to cope i adopted a child with a disability not because i am some kind of super hero or because i cant have children because i have 4 of my own but because i had the love to give a child a good home and loads of love and cuddles |

I think this is an odd question. I've never considered adoption a "trendy" thing to do. |

Actually, I just read somewhere that only about 1% of pregnant teens place their babies for adoption. I know that doesnt account for all adoptions in trhis country. I believe abortion is more common. |

You may have a point but I don't agree. I always put it down to the fact that there are less children in homes these days, so surely that is a good thing. There have been huge campaigns on TV and in newspapers to find adoptive parents. The younger girls getting pregnant seem to be keeping their babies and living off the state. |

I wanted to adopt a child because my parents considered it when I was a child. When they chose not to, I was really disappointed because I really wanted another little brother. That's when I first began to be interested in it.
This is kind of silly, but there is this Christmas song called "What if Jesus comes back like that". A verse in the song talks about a baby being born with a drug addiction and how she might have a chance if somebody takes her home. This song made me want to be that kind of person.
Obviouslly this was before I knew the downside of adoption. I also don't think all first moms are drug addicts or anything like that, so let me just get that clear.
I do know that my son has a chance now to not grow up in an abusive home because we chose adoption instead of having a bio child. This doesn't make me feel like I'm some great person or anything but it does make me feel like I did something while I was on this earth to make somebody's life better. That's really all I wanted to do. Isn't that what life is supposed to be about? That's why I chose adoption. Not out of trendiness or not wanting to be pregnant, but simply to just do something positive for somebody else.
Also, I have the utmost respect for people who take a chance and adopt older children, special needs children, or children born addicted to drugs. I hope I have the courage to do that one day. |

maybe you have really thought about how many children are actually in homes, and need adopting, need parents to love them......and its not always a trip to the family planning clinic that is needed, some women dont realise they are pregnant until its too late, some are pregnant thru things they have no control over and just feel that they dont want the baby, but dont agree with abortions......you need to look outside the box and broaden your way of thinking, its not as clear cut as you think it is |

I don't think so! Part of the reason adoption has become more prevalent is that more and more people are waiting longer to have children, and then they find they CAN'T get pregnant. If fertility treatments don't work (and they often don't), adoption becomes the only way to form a family. I don't think the family planning clinic is an issue at all....very few of the children being adopted are healthy infants. |

I think it is very easy to obtain birth control, not like in my day. I remember what is what like to be in lust and to be stupid, but now you get condoms free and they even sell them at the 99 cent store and yet so many take chances, I don't understand. |

I think because a few extremely visible celebrities have adopted and make it look "cool" and exotic, that adoption has become much more desirable. They make it look all too easy to fly overseas and "pick out" a child. Maybe there is some good to this as it brings attention to kids in our own country who need homes. But it appears that the publicity and increased "demand" for children has also fostered some pretty ugly things in other countries. When the desire for a family becomes "demand" there is bound to be corruption which results in the exploitation of kids. This is sad. |

What's wrong with kids being adopted, as long as the families are loving?
Those kids need parents more than those potential life cells in our bodies. |

I dont think it has become a fashion trend (although Madonna and Angelina have helped to promote adoption). Adoption has always been about, I just think it is more highlighted nowadays.
I just wish Angelina or Madonna would adopt a baby/child from their own country. There are plenty of people in America and UK that need loving families. |

Well yes I do, but I think as long as these kids are being adopted it's okay I guess. The problem is when people adopt children who aren't orphans. I hope your family planning reference meant people shouldn't be having kids they don't want, if so, you're right there. |

I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to adopt a child. I am in fact thinking of adopting. I am diabetic and the risks are too high for myself and for the baby that I would be caring. There are so many couples out there that can't have children so if they can start there own family by the mishap of someone else then good for them. |
|

whatever!
 |
Only in hollywood does it seem to be the fashion trend. |

I think a trip to your local adoption agency is in order. This is pretty insulting to the people who have been through all the rigorous checks and waited a long time to be able to adopt - you're talking as if it's like popping out to buy a magazine. And for those who choose to give their babies up for adoption, it's not a popular method of contraception, you know - you do realise 40 weeks of pregnancy then labour is how babies come about? Grow up and gain some sensitivity. |

Yes, on some level it is like a fashion trend. People see celebrities adopting and think it's cool. They don't really think about the child's needs and what it means to raise an adopted child.
I also agree that more should be done to educate young people about birth control, not just abstinence. |
|

you know you love me
 |
i mean, it is like the joy of having a child without having to go through the pains of labour. i think it has become like a fashion now, but i think it was probably started by someone who went by the saying "Too posh to push" =] |

If you aren't willing to go through the pain of labor you shouldn't have a child! I get it if you can't have children but to just adopt because it's cool is sad |
