Adoption laws? Telling the father?

Adoption laws? Telling the father?

If the pregnant woman is living with the father of her unborn child and she is planning to adopt the child out WHY would she be required to place an ad notifying the father in the local paper? If they are living together can't she tell her of her intentions and he can go to the hearing with her and signs over his rights?

Ok but again I ask if the mother is living with the father before, during and after the pregnancy WHY would she not just tell him she's having his baby and giving it up for adoption and let him sign over his rights? Why put an ad in the paper unless your intent is to NOT tell the father, hide the pregnancy and give the child up without his knowledge?

There is no need to do that unless the father can not be found. If the father is aware of the adoption and consents to it, he can simply terminate his rights just as the mother does.

By placing it in the paper it is considered legal notification of her intent, & should give a date for him to respond by. If he does no dispute or respond he has relinquished all future claims to the child,& the right to say he was not informed. That is an inexpensive way to do it legally. It can done by him being served notice from the court of intent for adoption of his child, but with filing & server fees assessed to the person giving notification.
It covers you as the mother legally from any future legal issues over the adoption brought forth by the father should he have a change of heart, after the adoption is complete*

My state has that same requirement, but you don't have to advertise if the father takes a dna test and signs away his rights.

You're right that the idea of the law is to keep women from giving up their baby without the father's knowledge. I guess where you live the legistlature didn't take into account that a father might be informed and willing to sign away his rights.

I have never heard of a woman having to notify the father in the paper....just tell him and have him sign over his rights.
