Adoption questioned i REALLY need answered?

so i am 19 years old and i want my step mom do adopt me.....my biological mom died when i was 3.....she has been married to my dad since i was 8...and i've been living with them.

So i need her to adopt me for school reasons..
if she adopt me because of her income i can be granted a pell grant at the college im attending this fall.....

so my ? is

How much would it cost for her to adopt me?
How long will the process take?
Where do i start?
where do i go to to get this procedure done?

The cost varies state by state. Call your local courthouse or a lawyer.
I would guess it doesn't take long, since you're a consenting adult, but again, consult a lawyer.

Please be aware that some adoptees are having troubles with things like getting medical insurance and passports. When you're adopted, it changes your birth certificate to reflect that the person who gave birth to you was actually someone other than who gave birth to you (in this case, your step mom). It looks awfully suspicious to have a birth certificate issued to a person when they're 19 (it should be issued at birth). Especially since Sept. 11, with tightened security, things like this can hamper your rights as an American citizen. You might want to consult a lawyer to find out if there are other ways to go about this besides adoption.

You will just need to go to a lawyer and consult them it shouldnâ€™t be too much money wise youâ€™d probably just have to pay court costs and possible your attorney. A person can get adopted at any age its just when you turn 18 you donâ€™t need to get your biological/legal parent(s) consent. One thing is I donâ€™t know if the courts will see your reason for wanting to be adopted as a good one. They may ask why she [step-mother] didnâ€™t adopt you prior to this seeing that your biological mother has been deceased since you were three and sheâ€™s been married to your Dad for 11 years. Thatâ€™s another thing does she even want to adopt you.

Does your State or your Country allow for adult adoptions? Not all do. I know that here in my part of Canada they do though.

If it's a private thing and nobody is contesting things then it can be done relatively inexpensively but you would need to speak with a lawyer to see if it is even possible.

check your state laws. youre legally considered an adult so im not sure if adoption is even possible at this point.

Adoption laws vary by state and it can be quite expensive to adopt. Check with an attorney in your area who specializes in family/adoption law. I'm not sure how her adopting you would help you out in getting a Pell Grant. Where's your dad? His income would still be considered.

And at 19 your an adult so why would you need a legal guardian?
