I have a really nice lady who wants to adopt me, and i want her to... How do i legally get her to adopt me with no say so from my momma.

Dear SG,

If you are living in an abusive or neglectful situation, you need to get help from a TRUSTED adult. A school counselor, teacher, coach, church member, neighbor, etc. Keep talking until someone does something.

Document any injuries, threats, abusive language, inappropriate punishment, etc.

You can also call the National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4 A CHILD. Someone who can help is there to take your call 24/7. Chances are that if your are found to be abused or neglected, you will be placed into foster care.

Most states allow a child 12 years or older to be able to request a guardian and speak for themselves in matters pertaining to their welfare and custody - and in foster care, you will most likely also be assigned a CASA/GAL (which is a legal advocate) who is supposed to represent your best interests.

The lady who wishes to adopt you/be your guardian/foster you MUST have all the legalities in order depending on how an adoption/guardianship/foster care were to occur if she is to become your caregiver.

If your mother really doesn't want you, but is unwilling to allow you to be adopted, she can voluntarily sign temporary or permanent guardianship papers with this other woman. You mother would retain her rights to you and would still be responsible for child support and other items depending on the type of situation. The information on how to do this is available online.

I do have to question however, whether or not your mother "doesn't want you". Why would she call the cops if you run away if she doesn't like you? Lots of people have "issues" with their parents at your age and if she is not abusing or neglecting you, maybe you should work on your relationship instead.

Good luck to you. I hope that if your mother doesn't want you, she will give you the opportunity to be with someone who does, and if she DOES want you, that the two of you figure out how to work through your issues. Whatever happens, I hope you are safe and cared for.

She can't adopt you without your mother's permission. There's no legal way for that to happen, as your mother has parental rights.

I suggest you talk to a teacher or guidance counselor about what's going on at home. If there's abuse or neglect, these professionals can help get you into a safe place. If not, they may be able to suggest coping strategies, and things you and your mom can work on to help you get along, or at least tolerate each other.

Simply being adopted by another family is not possible in your current situation unless your mother consents. Sorry.

You can file for emancipation. Then you can live where ever you want and will be seen as a legal adult.

I wish somebody would have told me this when I was a teenager. Instead I am a run a way.

I'm not trying to minimize your pain, but there are a whole lot of teen age girls that have issues with their mothers. It's a part of growing up and maturing. Most of us realize after we grow up and become mothers ourselves how silly we were back then. How you behave with your mother will have a huge impact on how you will be treated. Good luck to you.

If there is abuse going on tell somebody, anybody the more you tell the better. If you have a social worker let her know how you feel about it.Your needs are more important.Don't get me wrong the social workers have alot of work but must listen to you too.
