Lillie couldnt be more depressing. Talk about labeling every adoption agency the same......erm think not .
Anyhow, I think a trip to your local socail services would be a good start. I dont know where your from so I am not sure if things are different for you where you are.
The process can last for ages. My parents waited for 5 years for me. |

Every adoption requires a homestudy. This is a pretty involved process involving a background check, home safety evaluations, social worker evaluations, health exams, proof of financial stability and about a zillion other things. Getting the homestudy done usually takes 2-4 weeks.
For a domestic infant adoption, after the homestudy is done, the perspective adoptive parents wait until they are chosen. It could happen the day after their profile is submitted, next week, next year or never. There is no way to predict how long it takes from submission of homestudy/profile to the completion of adoption. |

Are you wanting to adopt from Foster Care? Domestic newborn adoption? International?
I can't answer your question without knowing the specifics cause each type of adoption has different reuirements.
Example, when doing an international adoption each country has different requirements.
ETA:I have no experience with domestic newborn adoptions. |

Well, if it's domestic newborn adoption you're seeking, you'll have to wait until the agency can find a scared, young pregnant girl and successfully convince her that someone else can do a better job of raising her child than she can.
The time frame for this can vary, as some women are more easily convinced than others, and the "tools" these agencies use are varied...from the "loving choice" propaganda to the "you can't possibly handle school/work/life AND a baby" type of spoon feed. They swing between making the mother feel like a hero and an absolute failure of a human being.
But rest assured, they are very skilled in their brand of coercion, so you should be holding that shiny newborn and hopefully you won't feel an ounce of guilt in knowing that somewhere out there, a young mother is realizing that she's just made the worst mistake of her life.
But hey, at least you'll be a "mommy", right? |
