Adoption support sites?

Does anyone know of some good websites the concern adoption, like how to get through the process, to meeting prospective birth mothers, and other legal aspects of adoption? I've been googling but haven't come up with any sites that are as helpful as I'd like. Thanks for the input. Additional Details Possum - I have no intention of walking up to pregnant women asking to adopt their baby. I'm talking about being introduced to women who have already made the decision to have their babies adopted, who also want to meet prospective adoptive parents. And the investigations for foster parenting is already underway, In my state (VA) I've been told about first becoming a foster parent before deciding to adopt. After years of infertility treatments, I cannot bear having to give a child back to his/her biological mother if that situation arose.

first off, BRAVO for telling it like it is! I don't understand what people have against adoption either, when the adoption is for the right reasons, which seems like your reasons are the right ones :) so don't stress out over the rude comments, please! You're looking to do a great thing no matter what opinionated, arrogant know-it-all says you aren't.
Have you looked into adopting through your state? That's how my husband and I plan to adopt a child/children. You can google "your state" state adoption, that's how I found mine. I'll put in a few links that I found, that look pretty good :)
Good luck!

Some reading for you:
* "Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self" by Brodzinsky, Schecter, and Henig
* "Journey of the Adopted Self" by Betty Jean Lifton
* "The Primal Wound" by Nancy Verrier
Please be sure you grieve your infertility before you adopt. |

I am confused about how you plan to approach adoption. First you say that you want to find a pregnant woman and then you say foster care so it is hard to try to give you information.
If you truly want to provide a child a home who needs one, then there are thousands of foster care children in the system.
If you want an infant and cannot bear the thought of giving the child back to his/her mother, I STRONGLY suggest that you do not go to adoption matching sites to find a woman who has already "made up her mind about adoption". I have seen estimates that anywhere from 50-70% of these women do not follow through with an adoption plan during the course of their pregnancy and birth. Sometimes it is after the baby has been in the home of the hopeful adoptive parents. It is one thing to make a plan to give one's baby away before birth and yet another after feeling the baby moving around inside of you or even more so after giving birth and holding the baby. Also, most families want open adoptions for their children. I get the feeling that you are not ready for that.
Do keep in mind that women surrending infants is quite rare - most women choose to raise their babies.
I am so sorry for your pain and hope that you find a wonderful foster child to fill your heart. |

Trying to meet up with pregnant women to talk them into giving up their child - is coercive.
Please be very aware of what infant adoption is all about - money for the
agencies.

Look into Foster Care in your state - they have thousands of children ready for adoption - with no parents to care for them.
Choose them - the one's that need a family - instead of trying to separate a baby from a mother - before the child is even born.
Thanks. |

I thought you were looking for some place to go to talk about being adopted by your question. What your looking for is an adoption supply site. |

Which country are you in? If its Aust than you need to contact social services to find out how it all works, since there are different approaches to adoption according to the country you live in.
EDIT; Oh-someone who lives in the US would know more about your system than i do..
If you have only just began to think about it i suggest you do lots of reading and research into the emotional side of adoption. Raising an child through adoption is different that a biological child. Fishpond.com has lots of good books on adoption if you want to start there. |

Here are a few adoption sites that give a lot of info about different types of adoption, and articles on things to consider and be aware of when adopting
http://www.adoption.com/
http://www.adoptivefamilies.com/domestic_adoption.php
http://www.theadoptionguide.com/options/domestic-adoption
http://www.babycenter.com/adoption
These are a few forums that I've found for adoptive parents and families planning to adopt. If you can't find the information you are looking for, you can ask other people who've been throught the adoption process themselves before, and can help answer your questions.
