Adoption: want to find parents?
|
hey guys
im from the west of ireland and my mother was adopted when she was a baby in cork back in 1959. For many years now she always had wondered who her biological parents were and i want to really help her. She went to a social worker in Dublin back in 87 and she was just told her mothers name was catherine and that was it. I think law now has changed where she might have the right to know? i really want to do this for her as she really deserves but i dont know where to start. can u guys please help me with this tricky situation. it will be greatly appreciated
thank you

Yes, the law has changed. The records are accessible from the General Register Office.
Best of luck in tracing your roots; it is just as much your heritage as it is your Mum's |

give your mum this web address:
http://www.adoptionireland.com/services/trac_index.html
I know you want to do this because you love your mum and think she deserves it, however tracing of information and of birth families is a very private and personal matter and this is why information is ONLY given to the adopted person themselves. You may want to offer to help her if she wishes to search, but be prepared to be shut out, at least at times, it really IS very personal and some of it us adoptees have to take time to digest some of the information revelaed before we can discuss it with anyone - sometimes we wont divulge any information about certain aspects at all.
Keep on loving your mum as you do, but please respect her right to privacy in this too
Good luck to you both xx |

First - add your details to the international registries here
http://www.isrr.net/
http://registry.adoption.com/
Check here for information on Irish adoption records here -
http://www.adoptionboard.ie/info/index.php
and
http://www.adoptionboard.ie/contacts/informationandtracing.php
And check here for any support - and/or search help - it's the best online forum for adoptees I've found -
http://www.adultadoptees.org/
All the very best with the search. |

Hi yes she can get all the details of her parents including a written statement of why she was put up for adoption.
I was adopted in 55 but have not been able to trace my birth parents as yet, it can get expensive try 192.com that will start you off.
I wish you the very best of luck. |
