Adoptive Parents?

I do not understand these "thank you" sentiments within the adoption triad.

Why is it worthy of thanking someone for doing something they WANTED to--add to their family?

Why do people thank bio moms for not aborting their kids--do these people thank EVERY mom they see for not aborting? No? Then why assume any of us ever seriously considered abortion? Talk about a back-handed "compliment." Yuck.

If anyone deserves a thanks it's the adult adoptees, who stick around and bother to talk about their experiences, enabling the rest of us parents to learn from them. They had no choice in all of this, they've been abandoned (oh, um, excuse me, "placed") and then on top of it all, told to be grateful, had their rights (to their original birth certificates) violated, and denied their loss... yet they are still here, still trying to communicate.

I don't deserve ANY thanks, and neither does my daughter's adoptive mom.

Yes, I agree amen and hallelujahs all around, nothing is more noble than making a child heal your fertility/child savior issues.

I think that the question is too general. Yes, yes, yes, kudos to adoptive parents who adopt a child who needs a home. That said, I have a hard time giving kudos to adoptive parents who try to sell themselves as saviors to a poor pregnant mother who is forced to give away her child because of economic reasons. This is a case a home needing a child.

A child who needs a home vs. a home who needs a child is worlds apart when it comes to giving kudos.

Adoptive parents are just wuunnderful. They can't have their own children so they coax children away from their mother, extended families, culture, and history.
That's selflessness, alright.

I give thanks daily that we had the opportunity to adopt our wonderful daughter (now 4). Glad to know someone out there supports adoption. For us, it seemed the obvious choice rather than going to ridiculous lengths and cost just for the chance to try to reproduce biologically...each couple makes their own choice though.

Thank you for your kind words. Sometimes adoptive and foster parents get beat up pretty good...by the kids, the system & society. :-) It's nice to have positive feedback even though we didn't do it to get a halo put over our heads...

Yep! Adoption / Fostering to Adopt IS a wonderful thing! We are ALL great for helping these children have normal lives.

How sweet! Thank you. The truth is that without the birth families making the courageous decision to create an adoption plan for their child, most of us would never have the experience of being a mother. Kudos to the bio families also! :)

My husband and I were at dinner a few nights ago, and the waitress was openly talking about an abortion. She already has 5 children at home and got pregnant by another man. She was trying to figure out a way to come up with the money, and all I could think about was adopting it.

How selfish of her.

I am pro choice HOWEVER I feel that there are certain lines that need to be drawn.
