Adoptive parents, how did you word your last will and testament?

I'm single, so everything goes to my son. I have my sister, my brother, and my mother lined up preference order as legal guardians.

I want to add something like: "It is my wish that MYSONSNAME’s Guardian supports him with communication between him and his birth family. It is my wish that he determines the level of communication between him and his birth family." (I chose to use "birth" family because I've seen that used un MANY legal documents, not because I like to call them that.)

I asked this question... or a similar one before, but I can't find it and I'm getting ready to finalize everything today. I want to make sure that I add all important matters.

Any special wording that I could/should add?
Additional Details
My family knows of my wishes- they will support them. I just want everything in writing so if there is any confusion, whatever, the most important things are there.

I Love A Child With Autism!!!
I am curious why you need to add it to your will? These people who you are entrusting him to are your family...don't they already know your wishes? I have no special clause in my will to cover my children and their first families...because I have ongoing contact, which I communicate to my appointed guardians. Your will cannot force your family to keep the lines of communication open, and honestly, if you are afraid they won't, then maybe you should find someone you can trust to carry out your wishes.

Has this will been made out by an attorney? Make sure that your relatives are mentioned, leaving them each $1.00 should they contest your will. The attorney should know the correct language to put in there. It is my wish that MYSONSNAME enjoys a communication with his birth family and that it be facilitated and that the level of communication be moderated by his Guradian.

Nothing to do with adoption, but in our will, we stipulated how and when the children go to see.. Detailed down to times on Christmas day.. This way if I died and my husband remarried we both ensured to each other that neither could get more time or less time.

I'm the adoptee.

Since I'm an older adult, my mother simply referred to me in her will as her son.

So long as your son is a minor aged child, the wording you've posted is fine, to ensure he's kept in touch with his birth family. Once he's an adult, that won't be needed, but you should talk to your attorney for guidance. Ask your attorney if this is needed to be in the will, or if it should be in a separate letter to the guardian. Somehow, I think that would be more appropriate.

I cannot think of any other wording that could be needed in addition to what you posted.
