Advice on beginning the adoption process?

I know NOTHING about adopting. My husband and I have been trying for a long time to have a baby. We always knew that we'd like to adopt sometime in the future. The problem is that I am completely clueless as to how to even begin the process.
Any advice would be appreciated.

What is a Childrens Aid Society? Sorry, I don't know anything at all about adoption.
I live in the USA, by the way.

The first thing I would do is spend at least year not trying to have a baby. Instead, work on any emotional issues that may have come up about not being able to conceive. This is really important. It is a preparation for becoming a parent to an adopted child, believe it or not. During that time, read EVERYTHING you can get your hands on about the children in care, the process, etc. Next you can contact your local Childrens Aid Society and talk to a social worker and attend an information night meeting. Also, you can contact adoption support groups for Aps, and learn first hand what its like to adopt from care.

If you are in Canada go to the Children's aid society web page email them and they will give you all the info you are looking for.
You can also look up Canada Waiting Children.
Also go on google and type in :"adoption info" and where you are from
You will have to do a home study and take a evening course.

There are plenty of online sources, where you can actually search for children waiting to be adopted, or you can find adoption services that can help you find a child. You can also contact your county or state to get in touch with Child Services who can help put you in touch with PLENTY of kids waiting for you!
Here's a site my friend used, they help prepare adoption documents for people, however they offer a free booklet on adoption, as well as a FAQ page that may help?
