In this world all adopt children as their children. Is there any situation of adopting an old person ,above 60 years, from old-age home as his/her father or mother.

Well I've heard of adopting a grandparent- A family "adopts" someone living in an elderly home who doesn't have children or grandchildren of their own. |

Contact your local nursing home or retirement home. There are programs out there for "adopt a grandparent" and I also think there are programs for "adopt a veteran". You may want to try a google search on those terms.

Actually there are adopt a grandparent programs however you dont take them home. You visit them every day or as many times as you could and you act as their friend not as a caregiver. Most elderly people hate to have people pitty them so you have to act like YOU WANT it more than they do. It is really fun. I have had 3 different grandparents all through out high school. I still visit the only one who is still alive every time I come home from college. |

it takes place but such situations are few and far in between. in india it does not take place. in foreign countries yes. but they are not brought home. instead they are regularly visited by people who adopt them. this is my limited knowledge. |

Those who have parents are leaving them in ' Elders Home' for care,and this happens even in India where thousand year old legacy of joint family system (all members of family to live together in single house!) has collapsed and hundreds of thousands of elderly parents are thrown to the 'Elders home' for care till their end of life! When this is the thing now happening, how come you expect people to adopt old people for whom everything from food, medicine and all other things are to be provided! No where in the world old people are adopted for home care! |

Years ago I was leading my daughters Girl Scout troop and we had Adopted Grandparents.... But, it was not about a legal adoption--or bringing them home...
It was about adopting them to show care and attention... Most of our Girls continued to keep in touch with their Grandparents for years....
The contact with the elders was good for the girls and the contact with the girls brought light to their eyes....
I don't believe that people have to adopt older people or even people who are legal adults (with those odd exceptions)...
Generally speaking, children would not need to be adopted if they could take care of themselves--Which is where Guardianship, Conservatorship, Power of Attornies and all that stuff comes in...
Adults that are unable to care for themselves don't need to be adopted and get new parents--they need to be taken care of and there are methods for that.... |
