Am I eligible to adopt in this country?
|
I'm currently living in UK, non-citizen.
But I am a resident. Only live here for two years. Can't I make some deal with the Adoption agency that I will remain in the country till I receive my Citizenship? Because I have been talking about a child I might adopt here in the UK for a very long time now.
I've talked to him and everything. I can support him financially, I have no criminal records, and a good education. Additional Details Law here in England says I must live here.
But I do not know if they mean Citizen, or just a resident.

From what I've found, it seems that legal residency should be sufficient. (One resource specifies residency in the UK for at least one year, the other states only "legally domiciled.")
I suggest that you apply to your local authority as a prospective adoptive parent, and explain your situation, including that you are pursuing citizenship. They may still not find your immigration status sufficient, but from what I'm seeing from various sources, it's at least worth an application. Then you can begin the process of interviews, background checks, homestudy, etc. Your first stop should be your local council to discuss eligibility and requirements. |

Get in contact wiht Social Services.
In the UK All adoptions are through them. There are no 'private' adoptions legal.
There aren't any adoption agencies. As long as you pass your home study, and can prove that you intend to stay in the UK, then you should have a shot.
I don't know what your chances are, but social services are the only way. |

Firstly you can't make 'deals' with adoption agencies, they tell you what you can and can't do. The adoption agency can tell you whether they mean resident or citizen.
I am slightly confused by the details you have given so I am going to base this on you not actually starting the adoption process yet. As you're no doubt aware you have to go through an adoption agency or social services which takes 8 months to get approved.
I'm also confused as to you talking to a boy whom you would like to adopt as it's not that simple. How do you know he is freed for adoption? Even if he is it doesn't mean you would be the one who would adopt him for the reason that it does take 8 months to be approved and he could be adopted in that time. . |

The best thing to do is to email some adoption agencies and make some phone calls. They will be able to advise you free if you are. |

I doubt it, but inquire with your local authority, children and families division.
Private adoptions are illegal in England for ethical reasons. They don't want to end up with the kind of baby selling that goes on in the USA, catering only the the paying customers. It is a social service for children and all adoptions are done via social services. |

You should be able to. You might want to tell them that you're willing to sign a contract or something to make sure that you'll always stay in the UK.
Maybe you can make a special deal with the adoption agency? |

you can adopt from any country regardless of citizenship, but it differs from person to person. what you have to do is go the orphanage from where you plan on adopting your kid, and see what requirements they give you to okay the adoption. But your citizenship for sure will not affect an adoption, and if you're a suitable parent you'll get a kid :D |
