Any APs who have had the biological mother "adopt them back"?

How does this impact the family?

I know a mother who adopted her son back and another mother who adopted back one of the twins she lost to adoption. There is a website about it which is very informative. It is interesting, to say the least. The coolest part about it is that they get an amended amended birth certificate that actually is amended back to the original. Talk about convoluted and unnecessarily difficult, but so cool for the mother!

ETA: Felicitas, I am so happy to hear that news! She must be in her bliss! I know that the one was holding out for a long time, and there must have been a huge turnaround. I haven't spoken to Scarlett for quite a while, and should contact her. Good news, F. Thanks for passing it on.

And, you are right, there are NO AP's posting in response to this at all. Odd since they so often have so much to say about the mothers at other times.

I've heard of a couple of people doing this but don't have any personal experience.. Kazi, I think that once the adoptee is 18, they can get "adopted back" via adult adoption and don't require the AP's consent.

Not that I am an adoptive parent, but i'd like to answer anyway. (I'm still looking forward to hearing their views on this.)

My own opinion is that if the adoption is open and both the adoptive and natural families treat each other as family, it should make no difference other than restoring the birth record and filiation to what it should rightfully be (the adoptee being related after all to the natural family and being "related in law only" to the adoptive family). Nothing saying you cannot treat people unrelated to you as family and love them as such, or hate people you are related to, but it is different.

But, also, why can't a legal adult have 4 or more legal parents if they so choose? I feel adult adoptees should have this right, to make this decision if they so choose.

Sly, one big of excellent news is that since she wrote that article at http://www.adoptingback.com/adopteddaughterback.html , Scarlett has since adopted-back her other twin daughter as well! :) She, like you, never even signed the papers but her babies were stolen anyway (as her parents signed them and orchestrated everything against her will).

Do you mean the parents change their mind during the revocation period? B/c I'm sure that would be hard for the APs but they would know it was a possibility. I cant think of any other way a child could be adopted back unless you mean as an adult?

ETA Im an AP and I answered

I have only heard of someone "adopting back" when they are 18+. Adopted back as an adult. Good question.

I was under the impression that to adopt a child the birthparents rights had to be terminated and once they were they could not be re-instated..

I have never heard of this. Would it even be possible? Adoption is a legal process, so I don't see how a first mom could "adopt back" a person who who has not been legally relinquished by their adoptive parents.
