Want to share your experience? My husband and I adopted our son through the foster care system two years ago and are considering adopting from Africa sometime in the future. I'd love to hear some personal stories about what you experienced, how it all played out, money involved, best agencies....etc etc. I've researched it too, but sometimes you get a better picture just by asking around.
Additional Details
We decided not to adopt domestically again after our last adoption fell through. Sounds like I'm being petty, but it completely shattered us and so we decided that when we are ready to do it again we are going to try international adoption.

We adopted from Africa.
Now is the time to be very very careful. It seems where ever there is money to be made on adoptions corruption soon follows, especially with international adoptions.

why not adopt through the foster care system again? at least you'll know that there are kids in this country (who have a similar culture and language) who need a mommy and daddy too.
regarding africa:
so... if i understand correctly, you are going over to africa to avoid birthmama drama?
wow, how noble.
ps. why is it a 'bad thing' when a mother decides to parent HER child that SHE gave birth to? wouldn't an ap want to make sure that the child adopted truly is unwanted by the fparents?
this "failed adoption"; so i'll trek across the globe to get a kid, boggles my mind.

Just try to get a younger child who isn't speaking yet. Otherwise the culture shock will kill all three of you!
Awesome that you're willing to adopt though. So many people stupidly decide to try to force their unwilling bodies to bear children while letting unwanted children rot in foster care or be abused by less worthy adoptive parents! |
