Are AP's that adopt from Foster care screened as much as those adopting through a private agency?

"A Kansas couple who failed to report their son's disappearance nearly a decade ago are considered "people of interest" in the case as authorities expand their search nationwide, a sheriff said Monday.

Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy told reporters no charges would be filed while investigators focus on finding Adam Herrman, who was 11 when he disappeared in 1999 from a mobile home park in Towanda where he lived with Doug and Valerie Herrman.

Adam had been in foster care and was adopted by the Herrmans when he was 2 1/2 years old. He was born June 8, 1987, and would now be 21 years old"

Why the hell are adoptive parents not screened better. Sometimes it seems that if you adopt from Foster care the requirements are alot more lax because they just want to get kids into a home and sometimes it seems that any home will do!

Do you think AP's that adopt from foster care are screened as much as those that adopt from a private agency?

I understand that bio parents do this sort of thing too, but no one is screening them (usually) to make sure they are fit parents.

I also agree that someone should have reported this child missing and shame on those that saw the abuse and did nothing about it. Like the Aunt that saw him chaned un in the bathroom...

Screening is just that, it's a snapshot of someones position at a point in time. It can't predict what they will do in the future since it can't flag all behavior. It can only look at the past and present.

With that having been said, based upon my own personal experiences, our screening for a foster care adoption was more thorough then what we did for our international adoption but I can't speak for how it was/is in all areas of the US or Canada.

I believe they are all screened the same but I don't believe that's the issue here. Why didn't the school or relatives or close friends notice the boy was gone.

I think all are screened the same barring any intercountry adoptions requirements. All must pass a state homestudy.

Those parents should be in jail for not reporting that their child went missing. It's that simple.

i don't really see how screening them better could prevent stuff like this from happening. it happens in biological families too, and families who adopt from agencies. it's not as though in any of the 'testing' the parents will come out and say 'oh yes, we plan to abuse him. if he's bad we might beat him to death and no one will care if he runs away' whatever unfortunate situation came about that caused this poor childs disappearance probably would not have been prevented with better screening because it is impossible to tell how people will react in a situation they aren't yet in. so unless they had a history of violence, there is no way to know ahead of time.

There are many Aps that adopt privately because they can't even pass the 10cent screening process they use with fostercare.

Scary huh.
