Are there jobs available for people in international orphanages?
|
I would love to have a job for a few years in an international orphanage, (I have an education degree), but all the opportunities I seem to find are all volunteer where I would have to pay a few thousand dollars to pursue it as well as living expenses while I was there. I am looking for something that would either cover my living expenses while I was there, or I could pay for that, but they would pay me a salary of some kind. Additional Details I just thought I would add that I wouldn't be looking for a salary equivalent to what I would earn here, just what they would provide for someone there.

I don't know if this is possible, but you could check with some international adoption agencies and see about working as an in-country representative.
A thought. |

It is all volunteer. Sorry, but they don't even have enough money to clothe the children, much less pay for extras like a teacher.
I scour the garage sales for good quality clothing and send it with my mom's coworker whenever she returns home to visit her former USSR village. She takes nothing for herself - her family has clothing for her to wear. All the clothing and stuff goes to the orphanage. Wish we could send medicines, but even simple things are restricted. |

The reality is they don't have enough money in developing countries to feed and employ their own people, so where would they get funds to properly pay you a salary? My advice if you are interested is to go through a volunteer organization that fund raises before you go and puts you up in marginal accomodations while you are there. |

The orphanages I've been to have their director, who gets paid a good amount, and then lots of regular local people who get paid a decent rate for the country, but not what a Westerner would live on.
My friends who've done something like this either worked for the peace corps or got paying jobs as English teachers and then just volunteered at orphanages in their spare time. |

You might try applying for the Peace Corps? You do get paid a little. |

Opedial is 100% ccorrect, I volunteer in orphanages in Eastern Europe and trust me when I tell you there is not enough money to even feed and diaper these children. If this is what you truly want to do perhaps you should look at sponsors, there are lots of people who wish they could go and help but due to life they cannot just up and go. Lots of times they are willing to donate money either a one time thing or a monthly payment to know someone who is doing what they wish they could. I know quite a few people here in Romania who work in the hospitals and orphanages and live solely on donations. You can appeal to churches, small businesses, family and friends. But other than that I would be shocked if you could find a place that could afford to hire you. |
