getting the run around from lawyers,how do I get birth cert. and social security # for baby.Adoption was final in nov. 08.We are in new york.Thanks for the help

Do you have several certified copies of the adoption decree from the attorney? If not, you'll need to get them.
Complete this form: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.pdf
and bring it to the local social security administration office near you along with a certified copy of the adoption decree.

from what I understand, it can take up to 6-8 weeks to get an amended birth certificate. Im sure the holidays and a rush to get ss #'s for '08 tax returns will add to your wait. |
