Can I give a shout out to my peeps? Have you all had a similar?

experience here? I'm FINALLY learning to let go of the SHAME of having been a "teen mom". OMG! It's only taken 30 years! The feeling of being "different" b/c of my adoption experience. Here, I found I'm not alone...

Sadly, I've learned my adoption experience isn't so unique. I can let go of the shame of being abused (children always blame themselves).

Thanks to all who've shared here. I learned about "The Girls Who Went Away" here. I've learned I'm not alone in my concerns about adoption reform & what other, newly developing unethical/medical/conception practices will have on future generations.

I found my own VOICE. And I kinda like it! Not b/c I'm 'so smart' or anything, but just b/c I HAVE one! I've been silenced & shamed & made to feel guilty & told to be grateful for so many years (decades).

Does anyone else feel like I do? What have you learned here? Has anything you've read changed your mind? Broadened your knowledge? Made your head just a wee bit bigger?

No, I'm not a teem mom. I'm living proof that ALL teens will outgrow that title.

However, you'd be AMAZED at how some people have tried to make that fact seem to be a shameful thing that I should HIDE. As if! Including a former boss who said I should keep in on the QT (in my mid 30's at the time).

Good for you, Robin!

The state of California may not consider me an equal citizen because I was adopted, but I know my voice is just as important and vital as anyone else's.

I'm so glad you have found the same about yours, because it is. There is no reason for shame just because society dumped it on us all those years ago. Society was WRONG!

I have learned a lot since finding Y!A. Didn't know about the BSE, or "The Girls Who Went Away", or the push for open records or the states with open records.

It's been very informative.

The biggest, most important thing that I have learned from Y!A is that adoption is a huge issue, affects so many people...often without them even knowing it. For example, my bsibling did not even know I existed until age 31!!!
