Can a Single Man adopt a Child?

You may want to consider adopting from foster care. In 2005 there were an estimated 513,000 children in foster care in the US. Many of these children are available for adoption and they truly need loving stable homes.

Although some international and domestic infant adoptions are possibilities for you, it will be very difficult. There are thousands and thousands of couples also looking to adopt and a single man may find it hard to be "chosen".

But don't lose hope in the dating scene. My husband was a first-class disaster when it came to dating. He was geeky, shy, awkward and fairly clueless at the beginning. I found myself being pulled toward him because I'd already dated quite a few bad-boys, had my heart broken a few times and was ready to appreciate the gem hiding beneath his surface. The bets were made at our wedding that the nice man and the reckless woman would never last. Yea, sure. That was 19 years ago and we're still in love!

Well, it's going to be really tough. People are typically suspicious of single men adopting, so you need a really good track record. Since you're single, the agency will probably be keeping a very close eye on you regardless of your track record. Lol, you know, mostly because child services people are unhappily married childless people with nothing better to do than snoop on decent hard working parents/parents to be.

You would probably be better off going through with a privet adoption. That way you can get to know the birth mother and get to know if there are any medical issues that run in the family.

Yes, but you will likely be matched to a male child, but go through the foster care system. They just want homes for children now, and are prepared that families are not always 2 parents. Good luck.

Unfortunately for hopeful dads it is harder to adopt a child as a single man but its not impossible. In an open adoption moms to be might feel like they want their baby to have two parents or a single mom above a single dad. However, there are the cases where the mommies have to problem with dads raising their children so look into it. You'll need an open minded adoption agency. I think your chances are better with an open adoption. If the agency and the mom give you the green light it will be like any other process, your records will be reviewed and you'll be interviewed to evaluated your parenting capabilities and commitment. well some place wont they want a husband and a wife usually to do this. but if u have a good record no arrests stuff like that and u have a good job and a clean and great place i dont see y they wouldnt allow u to do such a thing. but good luck

It is difficult to adopt as a single male in the US. I think you will have better luck with an international adoption.
