We live in Ontario, Canada. Does anyone know if it is legal to adopt privately? I know of girl about to abort(for the 3x) her 6 month old baby. Could we suggest to privately adopt?
HELP SOON. She is planning on aborting next week!

I don't think a couple in their 50s would be approved to adopt a newborn baby.
Hunting down and targeting pregant women to get yourself a baby is predatory behavior.
You could suggest it to her, but anything more would be harrassment. |

You should be careful about approaching her with the purpose of getting her baby as you could be charged with harassment. If you truly care about the baby, why not try to help the girl?
It sounds like this girl really needs help in getting her life sorted out. You could refer her to social services counseling for her so she can get advice from professionals to help her get her act together (like responsible use of birth control) and to help decide what is best for her and her unborn baby.

Yes, in Ontario you can adopt privately but, I believe you still have to go through a proper home study. I do know that as a birth mother in a private adoption she has the right to choose the parents.

I'm really surprised to hear that she is potentially getting an abortion at six months gestation. I work in health care in Ontario and haven't ever heard of a facility that will do it that far along.
Just curious but what makes you think she'll want you to adopt her baby? There are thousands of loving people waiting to adopt babies, surely she knows this. |

Personally I am pro choice, but I think late-term abortions (unless for health reasons) are downright vile, but in Ontario it is legal up to 24 weeks, so she is hitting it close.
I live in Ontario and while technically yes, you can adopt privately, you would still have to attend PRIDE and have a home study done, but I have to say that you are being presumptuous. As heinous as late-term abortions may be, they are still legal, which makes it none of your business.
She does not have to justify her decision to abort her baby to you.
If you wish to adopt, I suggest you start at the beginning, with agencies in your area, signing up for PRIDE and have your home study done. And while you are waiting, you can research adoption and all of its many facets.
