Can a wheelchair bound woman adopted a baby?

whose (married to an able bodied man)??? Additional Details I Live in Ireland and i never heard of anyone with a disability adopt like i think once the baby is cared and loved and wanted there shouldn't be a difference if your disabled /gay/bi/black or white as long as you care for the baby:-)

It depends on what country your trying to adopt from.
Adoption isn't a right so you have no leg to stand on and must meet the minimum criteria of each country? They are trying? to look out for the best interest of the child...despite it going against each individual belief on how things should be.
Why did you specify "BABY'?....Is that a discriminatory criteria of yours or just a political point trying to be made using defenseless babies?.
Why don't you be more open minded and consider teens with a similar disability?. Your house is already set up for it, right?. |

I don't see any obvious reason why you couldn't, but I'm not familiar with the details of adoption and disability laws in Ireland.
In the United States, it's illegal to discriminate on the basis of a disability, so as long as you proved you were capable of taking care of a child (just as any other adoptive parent would have to prove that,) the fact you were doing it from a wheelchair wouldn't be a deal breaker.
Ireland may be different, though. You should contact family/social services or equivalent, and ask about their policies.
I wish you the best. My mom has a disability too (she's hearing impaired, not wheelchair-bound) and did a great job of raising me, so I have a soft spot in my heart for people who parent through their challenges. |

I am a single adoptive parent who is a scooter user. Ireland has very progressive ideas about disability. I don't think you will have any problem if you are otherwise qualified. |

I don't know about Ireland, but in the US, if you prove you are capable of caring for a child, you would not be prohibited from adopting solely on the basis of a disablity.
And the "not having a leg to stand on" comment is pretty low. |

While i'm sure it will be taken into account, i dont see why it would be a issue as long as you love the child and can provide for its needs.
and as for this "Adoption isn't a right so you have no leg to stand on
thats pretty damn low Independ, even on this site. |

I think it would discrimination if she couldn't. Anyone who can love, care and provide for a child should be able to adopt. |

I don't see how your disablity stop you from caring well for a child. Although i would advise to raise an older child who is past the crawling age as it would be hard for you to chase a crawling child who tend to get in to some very strange corners.
As for "no leg to stand on" comment can be only made by people who will pull the wheelchair from under you just to see you fall and so they can amuse them selves. I don't think it gets lower !! |

IDK!!

"Adoption isn't a right so you have no leg to stand on"
Some people have no limit as to how low they will go....sad!
Anyway, I think it will be considered when deciding if you have what a child needs.
Good luck to ya. |

yes any one who has the parenting skills is liable to adopt a baby. so if your a good mother, your disability shouldn't be a problem. |

I dont see why not! Functional legs aren't required to love a child. Actually, it would be a violation of Equal Rights to discriminate aganst you and you should pursue it in court if denied |

Yes, as long as they deem you capable of being able to take care of the child. For example, if you were paralyzed from the neck down and single, they may say that it just wouldn't work, since you would likely need a caretaker yourself.
Also, if you are disabled because of some trauma that happened recently (last one to two years) that may prevent you from adopting for a certain time period, but not permanently.
I truly do not think you would have any issues adopting because of your disability. After all, it doesn't affect your ability to love! |
