Can anyone else besides an adoptee get a copy of non identifying information?

my mom was adopted as a infant.she has never had great interest in seeking the birth family but did manage to get a hold of the non identifying information years ago.since then it has disappeared.i could have sworn that it said one of the family members died of a specific disease but my mother disagrees (she says it was something else that the family memeber died of but she has a crappy memory and i dont)

anyways, since the paperwork has disappeared (i think that someone accidently shredded them when they were cleaning out the box)

will i be able to get a hold and have this paper released to me? or will my mother have to get the documents.

also, where do i/we go to retain these papers?

also when she went to check to see if the bio mom added contact information the bio mom didnt leave any (so she didnt leave any) but i am having a urge to check again to see if she left anything within the years..even though my grandma/grandpa will always be my grandma/grandpa, i am curious to see of any cousins/aunts/uncles etc. if any.

whilst your mom is alive she is the only one yes after that the executor of her will and so on
in most of the western world there is a central births and deaths registry that is where you can find out or at the hospital where she was born
there is a veto section for non disclosure this only lasts for 5 years in most cases then must be up dated when due or it dose not apply
but unfortunately pre 1970s is harder and more private the mothers did not need to leave there details & in many cases did not
in some countries the local war efforts destroyed the only copies in fires bombings as they were only in the one building

If you know which agency or lawyer handled your mom's adoption, I would start there. I don't know if you can get the info or not, but it doesn't hurt to ask. If anything, maybe your mom could put in another request?

Also, I wouldn't take at face value what they say about her n-mom not leaving contact info. Many times, they "omit" that information when in fact, the information is right there. For some reason, they don't like to see n-families reunite. They are notorious for lying and witholding that. I have heard of that happening to far too many adopted people.

Good luck.

I know with Catholic Scarities, an adoptive parent can get non-identifying info forever, but the adoptee has to be 18 to get it released to themselves. Also, most n i i is as old as the adoptee themselves, and is usually made up by the agency.

Depending on when your Mom's adoption was finalized & which state, she may be able to send away for her original birth certificate.

A word on this though- Please do not make contact with your Mother's first family members if she does NOT want you to do so. If you explain to her that knowing her family is important to you, she may indeed move forward with this, too.

I know it's been really cool for my kids to see pictures of my first family, and they are all getting to know each other via facebook. Even my natural brother and my adoptive sister are facebook friends, lol. We truly are one huge extended family.

I seriously doubt they would give it to anyone other than the adoptee or adoptive parents due to laws regarding privacy and confidentiality.
