It is not at all too old to be adopted. Our oldest daughter became part of our lives as a teenager, and we legally adopted her once she became an adult and could consent to her own adoption. : ) She is a joy and a blessing to us. As logn as your biological parents have had their legal rights terminated, you can be adopted at 14. If their legal rights have not been terminated, you will have to wait until you are 18.

Its not too old. In fact someone can be adopted at any age but once a person is 18 or older they just don't need anyones consent but their own. That said its hard to find people who will adopt teenagers since most people want baby's, toddlers or younger kids. Teens often come with a lot more issues which can depend on how long they have been in the system some may have been there for years.

Our son was adopted at 13. He wanted to have "permanancy" and not have to move foster homes. I think it is up to you. Do you want to be adopted? You have say in this. Do what is right for you.

No its not, but its harder.

And Bella, the age is 18, not 16. if you or anyone you know got chucked out at 16, that's illegal. You are still a minor.

Nameless
No, you can generally be adopted at any age, and can still be a dependent of adoptive parent's up until you are eighteen. It is however more difficult to find a family willing to adopt a teenager then it is to find a family waiting to adopt an infant or younger child.

Like others have said, no its not too old to be adopted. It will be harder though. Have you talked to your case worker? If you'd really like to be adopted by a family let him/her know. When I was looking at foster listings the kids who expressed a desire to be adopted caught my attention more than the kids who had stated that they did not want to be adopted and were not ready. There's always hope. Good luck!

No. One of my best friends was just recently adopted and she was 16.

You can be adopted until you're 18 years old, so no technically it isn't too old. I think the reason people are telling you that it is is because most couples would rather adopt a younger child than a teenager.

Good luck to you.

its not too old at all

No, I don't think it is to old, if the right parents find you then they are your parents forever, not just until you turn 18. Good luck.

Not legally, but most people are afraid of what problems you might have. It does happen. My neighbors adopted an 11-year-old-girl AND her five-year-old twin brothers awhile back. Believe me, if that group got adopted, there's still hope for you! (They're great kids but three at once would scare the daylights out of me!)

However, nobody knows what's going to happen about adoption, and it's not something you can control. So study hard and start thinking about your future. It's time to start thinking about college and a career for all kids your age. Keep your head on straight and don't cause problems for yourself.

The adults in your life obviously have had their own problems, but they are not your problems unless you allow them to be.

Good luck!

And for heaven's sake keep your legs crossed. You don't want to have to give up a baby for adoption!

Bella
16 is the age when your foster-family can chuck you out onto the streets.
No, 14 is not too young.

my husband and i , adopted our foster son at the age of 25years and 6 months . So you are not too old to be adopted . Hope you find the happiness you deserve .
