my babies dad and i are not together anymore or speaking. he is adopted and i really want to know where my baby comes from (heritage). my ex started to search for them and then we broke up and i dont know if he will keep searching w/out my motivation. can i possibly find his real parents myself? do i have the right since my baby is related to these people?

Of course you have the right. Your baby has the right to know the truth of his/her ancestry

Can you talk to your ex about searching?
Some states allow offspring of adoptees to register or search. That would be your child, and you may be able to register him/her on as the mother on the childs behalf, but you may not, I really have no idea. |

of course you are entitled to find out after all you are searching for your son who is underage and as his legal guardian you can search on his behalf everyone is entitled to know their heritage i only wish that i can find mine good luck |

it depends try talking reasonably to your ex about it, maybe you two can work together just for your child. I think every child has the right to know their real family no matter what. |

Legally you probably cannot find anything about them, especially if you were not married to your Ex. |

Sometimes it can be hard enough for adoptees to find this kind of information. You can look but you really would have no right to the records that your child’s father might be able to get. Even your child would have a harder time to get this information if one day they wanted it.
If you want heritage ask if your ex will get an ancestral dna test, since he is a guy he will be able to trace both the maternal and parental lines.Of course it would only go so far back but it would be something. I know you say you aren’t talking but if you want this for your child you will bury the hatchet so to speak. |
