Can my parents place my child up for adoption AGAINST my will?

Im a minor and I am expecting my first child. My parents are really pushing for adoption, and that isn't an option for the father and I. Can my parents force me to place the baby up for adoption

No, they cannot. They can make your life miserable but they can't put YOUR baby up for adoption.... |

No they can't. Do not sign anything they ask you to sign, if they try to, that is. Make it VERY clear you have no intention of giving up your baby, and stand strong. |

Legally, they cannot. You and the baby's father have parental rights.
Do you or the baby's father have other relatives who could act as advocates for you? Could you live with another relative?
Where you live is very important. another relative could obtain a legal guardianship over you, and you could live there.
Your parents would have to agree to this, but in view of their threat to your and the father's rights, a court might agree, if you could find a relative who is willing to be a guardian for you. |

Oh no, not at all. The baby is completely yours and the father's and no one can put that baby up for adoption but you. |

Legally NO - but they can make your life hell - and try their best to talk you into it.
Make sure your know your rights - and make sure you read this - written by others like you - that were railroaded into giving their children up to adoption - when it's not totally what they wanted to do -

No they can’t make you place your baby but they don’t have to support you financially. This is why you (and BF) should seek employment if you have not already done so. If you and your boyfriend choice to keep the baby that’s fine but remember that this baby is going to be your guys responsibility to take care of and provide for not your parents or even his parents. Its fine if they want to help you out some and give you support. |

Legally no......tell them to love you unconditionally and get over themselves. Its going to be your child not theirs.
Inform them that they "can't" pick and choose the parts of parenting they want to deal with. Tell them Jesus says so. |

No, they can't. Even if you are not yet a legal adult (18 in the U.S.), the baby is YOURS and the father's. NOT your parents'!
Please read (buy it or check it out at the library) The Girls Who Went Away by Ann Fessler. I will even send you my copy if you want it. Your parents should read it, too. NO ONE should be coerced into relinquishing her own flesh and blood and the women in this book (non-fiction) ALL attest to that!

Stand strong. We're all here for you and we stand behind you. |

No, its your baby, you made it, you are responsible for it. Your parents are still responsible for you though and thinking about what may be best for you, and for the child - as individuals.
You are thinking about what you feel is best for you and the father. The two thoughts are very different.
Don't dismiss your parents, they have the life experience you don't have. Talk it through with them, communication is the key. |

No, legally they cannot. They do have the right to sign you over as a ward of the state, but they cannot make you place the child for adoption.
Talk with your school counselor, doctor, or other advocate before the baby is born. Start to do things to show responsibility like cleaning, making things for the baby, and saving some money for the baby's needs. You can also apply for WIC, medicaid, and other help programs to help with the financial part of the baby. There's a group called Freecycle, which has different groups in each area. There, you can ask for things like crib, clothes, etc, for the baby. I know I've given MANY things to moms that need them. There should also be a pregnancy resource center somewhere in your area, that can help you with paperwork, the possibility of becoming an emancipated minor if need be, and with many other things in your pregnancy and afterwards.
Simply tell your parents that you've made up your mind, you are keeping the baby, and legally they can't make you give the baby up, but that you'd respectfully request that they work with you, and their grandchild, rather than against it. |

No, they can not force you. You are the mother of that child. You should do what is best for you and your child. if you want you can become an emancipated minor
Good luck and many blessings. I know it is hard. My mother tried to tell me to get an abortion, and when I did not she tried to tell me adoption. But it was my Baby, and I decided I was what was best for my child.and now I have 4 beautiful children, and hoping one day to have another or to adopt. Listen to your on heart and do what you think is best do not let anyone pressure you, because you are the one who has to live with the decision. |

In the US they cannot force you into an adoption. You must sign any paperwork required, regardless of your age. |

No. Not only do you have parental rights, the father does too. Consider putting his name on the birth certificate, if your hospital allows it, since you are not married. This will help him with his parental rights in case his parents want to help you guys. You might want to call the hospital maternity supervisor and ask what the policy is for single parents and their birth certificates.Good Luck |

Not Adopted
|
No, they can't, but many parents try to coerce their daughters into giving up a baby by refusing to be supportive and threatening to kick them out of the house.
It is natural and normal for the baby to stay with you, the one and only MOTHER.
DO NOT give in and be wary of the advice of school counselors and doctors - they are often in cahoots with adoption agencies and infertile couples who are looking for a baby. Your doctor should provide medical services, NOT adoption advice. Your school counselor should help you figure out how to KEEP your baby while finishing school and establishing yourself as a mother. The counselor should not provide any "suggestions" about adoption.
This is YOUR baby, your flesh and blood, and you have every right in the world to be a mother to your own child. Don't let anyone scare you into adoption! You will regret it forever and it will permanently damage your relationship with your parents - you will never be able to forgive them for making you give away your baby. |

No, they can't. But it would be nice, if they supported your decision. Hang in there, once they see that beautiful baby's face, they will come around. Good Luck. |

No. But they aren't obligated to support you in any way. So I hope you and/or your boyfriend have job(s) and a place to live lol.
"And until you turn the legal age of 18, they cannot put you out either. If they do, or would try to, you could call social services. Until you turn of legal age, you are completely safe in your home."
Social services can't force her parents to let her stay. They can however put her in a foster home until she is 18. As far as the parents are concerned though that is just as good as kicking her out I would bet. They cannot put her kid up for adoption. But at the same time they are not obligated to waste all their money on her kid. It is HER kid, not theirs and not their responsibility if she feels she is ready for a kid. |

No they cannot, that baby is your 'property' for lack of better word. they can't do a thing to take the baby away from you. The worst they could do is to press it upon you.
And until you turn the legal age of 18, they cannot put you out either. If they do, or would try to, you could call social services. Until you turn of legal age, you are completely safe in your home. |
