Can single men adopt children and at what age can they and how old does the child have to be?

I may one day decide to adopt a child or several children.... do they have to be the same race, what age do I have to be before I can do so if I can prove I can provide for them, how much of an age difference must there be betwee nme and the adopted child, and if ur in the military would this make it to where they would not allow you to? I live in Nevada and may one day consider adopting while I am still single till I choose to get married If I do.... I am a very good, loving, responcible person.....

I just don't know any of the restrictions... Would they turn me down If I was a good guy and could prove that I could provide for them and treat them well?

Times have changed and they do allow single men adopt, but not every agency agrees with this, so you may have to shop around. You will go through a more extensive back round check then normal, they want to make sure that you do not have a sick mind in wanting to do this. You will have to show that you have adequate child care, as well as a financial backing to do so. I think this is a wonderful thing for you to consider, I believe that men have a natural Instinct to be a parent as well as women. Best of luck to you...

there is no actual legal restriction to stop a single male adopting, although they will make it hard for you.

there are minimum age restrictions, i don't know what it is in your area, but there usually has to be at least 18 years between you and the child.

you must be over 18 to adopt, some place say 21, some countries are 25.

if you are in the miliaty thenthey will not let you adopt because your residence is unstable and the chances of you dying and leaving the baby are so high.

some countries do not allow single peope to adopt,

your best bet is to talk to a n adoption agency about this.

Being single you can, but they often will not allow you to adopt if your work takes you outside of the home for too long. Generally, there needs to be at least a big enough age difference that you could have had the child yourself. It all depends on your personality, gifts, and background. God bless!

no they dont have to be the same race it's your choice, you have to be at less 18 years of age, it doesnt matter how older you are to the adopted children, yes you can still adopt a child if your in the military, all you have to do to adopt a child is you must be 18 years old and prove that you can provide for them.

I am quite sure you would be able to adopt out of the foster care system. You would just need to check with DFS in your state and take the appropriate courses and training. Good luck!

ETA You will probably be out of luck in terms of international adoption, though. I can't think of any countries who currently allow single men to adopt, there are very few who allow single women to adopt at this point. But you could certainly inquire, because there may be options. I hope it works out for you!
