Yes you can. I know because I was adopted by my step father when I was 21. Check a phone book and look up a lawyer who specializes in family law. It was a simple process because I was an adult. My biological father was notified and could have contested it, however, the judge takes into consideration that you are an adult and that plays a big role in it. My biological father didn't contest it, they put it in the newspaper for a week or so and then we went in front of the judge. He asked me if this is what I wished to be and I said yes and it was done. |

In some states you can. It's best to check with an adoption attorney. |

Of course you can! The best part of it is, there's no paperwork...unless you consider adding them to your lease paperwork.
Just move them in, love them and take care of their schooling. It's a great idea!
One other thing that does cost money though, you may have to pay up to $200 to get their name changed.
Good luck! :-) |

In a few states you can, but why would you want to? At that age, if you want to be a family, you can just be one. If you want to leave that person money when you die, just write up your will. It seems like a very costly thing to go through when the person is already a legal adult. |

No, a person becomes an "adult" at 18. At this time the parents can no longer make legal decisions for a child because the child is being recognized an as adult. Once an adult you do not need anyone to sign any legal documents for you or make any other decisions, which makes you a free person. |

In many states you can, and there are intricate laws that might make it where you can adopt the 21+ year old in a different state, and then other states would have to honor the adoption.
It is done in some families for religious purposes, when a couple marries, they adopt each other's adult kids too. It is also done by some people who never had children, and are trying to make sure if something happens, that their new "child" can sign for legalities for them.
It will probably be necessary to speak to a family law firm that does some adoptions. My fiance tried to adopt his former stepson (the boy had always wanted him to adopt the boy, however, they didn't have the money when they were married). Anyway, a small hidden law made it impossible, because in our state, you can't adopt a former stepchild, however, an apartment was rented over the state line, and the adoption happened. |
