Can you be forced to give up your newborn because of age?
|
I am 14 and I am afraid that when I go to have my baby I will have to give it up for adoption because I will still be 14 when my baby is born, is this true? Additional Details note: I could get kicked out of my house, but the father's mom has extended an invitation that if I were to get kicked out I could live with them

You can't vote, you can't serve for the armed forces but . . . at 14 you can sign away your flesh and blood baby - it makes absolutely no sense.
Don't sign a thing, no matter how hard the try to push you to. There's not a thing anyone can do as long as you don't sign.
I work regularly with young mothers and they do really well with the right support and guidance. Never let anyone come between you and your child.
Good luck with baby! |

NO! Don't give up your baby and don't sign anything. Your baby needs you -- your age will make it difficult to raise a baby, but it's difficult no matter HOW old you are! Keep your baby and take your boyfriend's mom up on her offer if your parents don't come around. |

I also say DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!

This baby is YOURS and his or her FATHER'S.
NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO MAKE YOU GIVE YOUR BABY UP. PERIOD.
Your parents DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, have the authority or the right to make you give up YOUR child.
They CAN choose to make your life more difficult by not supporting you emotionally or allowing you to stay in their home (which is questionable under the law and would possibly give you a case for neglect or abandonment) or refuse give you money.
Your parents are probably in shock and hurting. Give them time. They might very well change their attitudes - MOST people have a hard time still being angry once the baby is born! This will be their GRANDCHILD!
However:
IF they do these things, IMO, they should be ashamed of themselves. Parents should love and support their children even when they make "mistakes" and families should stick together - even when times are tough. (And they will be tough!) YOU CAN DO IT!
FYI : If you are kicked out, you have the right to take YOUR possessions - they can't keep them from you in most states - and possibly sue for child support for yourself. Check your local laws.
I'm glad that you have some support with your child's father's family. You are very lucky that they are wanting to do the right thing! They must be very special people.

I wish you, your baby, baby's father and both your families the best of luck and hope that you all find a way to work things out and be a family for this little one. STAY STRONG - YOU CAN DO IT!! |

No, nobody can force you to give up your child.
Your parents may try to blackmail you, but they cannot make the decision.
Good luck. |

No you can't. If the fathers mom(soon to be grandma)extends the invitation, i say take it. Do not sign anything whatsoever.
I'm all for adoption when in the best interests of the child, but no mother should be forced to give up her child, ever. |

NO. do not sign anything. Some shady people could trick you into signing your rights away, then you are up a creek without a paddle, KWIM?
Best wishes;) |

A friend of mine was 14 when she had her baby, she wasn't forced to give up her son. No one came in and said You have to! She raised her son, married the father later. |

no, you can't be forced to give up your newborn. If you are worried about someone trying to trick you, make sure you boyfriend is listed on the birth cert as well, you would both have to sign something to give up rights to your child. |

No! That is YOUR baby, and no one can make you give it up for adoption. It's unfortunate that you wouldn't be helped by your parents, but I think it's awesome that the baby's paternal grandmother would like to help. If you feel you are ready for motherhood (which, granted, no one ever really is), then I would say to accept her invitation and move in with them. You may be surprised, you parents may come around. My best friend had her first son at 15 and her mother was ready to kick her out as well, but after he was born, she loved him and supported her daughter. |

No I'm pretty sure they can't do that just based on age! Don't let them take your baby if you don't want them to!

No, your parents don't have the rights to make you give up your child. Many times, they have terminated their own parental rights, since you have a child, and you could possibly be declared an emancipated minor.
The hospital can put you and the baby in foster care together, since you are a minor, and haven't been through the emancipation process yet. Talk with your local school counselor, and he/she can help you get aid for the baby and yourself. It takes time, so do it now. There is help for an apartment, infant formula, food for you while you're pregnant, and afterwards there's food stamps.
It's great that the baby's other grandma has invited you, however, it might not be considered legal for you to live there, because you are a minor. Call legal aid for your area, and see if they can answer your questions for you. Your Department of Human Services has resources for many things, including money for diapers, bottles, and other things you'll need. Shop at consignment stores and thrift stores, so that way you can get things very inexpensive (I saw a really nice crib today at one for $25.00).
If you do anything that makes anyone mad, they'll probably call CPS on you, especially since you're so young, so you'll have to work extra hard to complete your education, and to be a great mom. Good luck, and research the laws for your state. Also, as a taxpayer, I'd much rather see you get temporary help until you finish school, including college, which you'll qualify for grants (many high schools have daycare programs now), and that way, you'll be able to provide much better care for you and your child, when you're old enough to be out on your own in every way. |

If you can live with your mum's father then do it as soon as you can. When the baby is born you'll need the help due to sleepless nights.
I hope bit of trivia helps you feel better about being a very young mother;
Lady Margaret Beaufort; mother of King Henry VII of England. She was barely 14years old when he was born. It was noted how she devoted her time to caring for him because he wasn't a strong baby at birth and because of her love for her son they had a strong lifetime bond. Her kid turned out fine....(even won his own own crown. ) Why not your child?
All the best.... |

No you can't be forced to give up your baby. It's your choice.
Best of luck |

Stand up for your rights to your own child! Go live with your extended family if needed. This is your baby and if you want to keep it, no one should persuade you otherwise. |

Of course you can't be forced to give up your Baby. It's your Baby your the mom and you make all the decisions for it. The only way someone can take a baby off it's mother is if the mother is not caring for it or is abusing it.
However you may be advised by many people to give the baby up. Depending on where you live you may be able to give your baby up (at your own Choice) but still keep in contact with it, finish school get a Job and later look after it when you are both older.
My Friends mum had to do this when she discovered she had cancer and couldn't look after my friends 1/2 brother who was two. She then let forced while she went for corm-eo for nearly three years. she then got her baby back when she had finished the process.
But whatever you decided to do you have to think about Can you give your baby the best life or should you stick school out and then look after your little one.
I hope i've helped. |

What state are you in?????? The laws vary from state to state on what your parents could make you do to a certain point. No they can not make you put the baby up for adoption but in a lot of states your parents will be the babies custodian guardian until you are 18 years old. Most states will release the baby to you at 16 though if you have a job ( or way to support baby) and at a GED. Good luck Sweat Heart. Don't let anyone make you do something that you know is wrong for you and that little one. Work hard now and it will pay off in the end later. |

Your parents can do this as you are a minor. If you don't live with your parents, child services can step in as well. |
