Can you get aid for adopting your siblings?

I live in Pennsylvania I have a friend who is around 28 and adopted his brother who is 7 the same age as his own son.

I'm not sure if he got him directly from his mom or he had to get him from the state. I know its hard for him cause he already has 3 kids and paying child support for one, but he couldn't leave his brother out there.

I know that with foster kids you get some money to help you out, I was wondering if the same applies when you have to adopt your own family this way. or is there is any thing that could help him.

You would have to check with the states laws but I think if he fosters him he will get aid. If he adopts him I don't think he will.

If the child was adopted through the state, it (meaning the adoption) should be considered a "kinship care" placement/adoption. If that is the case, YES - the child may qualify for special subsidies and medical assistance. Our son was in a "kinship care" situation with his grandparents prior to our adopting him, and they were able to obtain some money from the state for expenses.

I would highly recommend contacting your local county's Dept of Children & Youth. That is who provides my son with his medical insurance and additional services due to his medical disorder at the time we adopted. I live in PA, and our county has always been great when it comes to answering my questions.

Good luck to your friend.
