Oh come on people...everyone get off your high horses! I know I know. It's easy to be angry with anyone who would do something seemingly so callous as giving up their less than perfect child. Unfortunately in reality some parents do give up children with disabilities, not just autism.
I am the mother of a son with autism. I am not proud to admit that when his dad & I first learned that he had a "learning disability", I felt overwhelmed & unprepared. Our marriage was falling apart. I asked God, "Why me?" I mean, hadn't I already been through enough? The answer that popped in my head was that this wasn't happening to me, it was happening to my son and God put this child in my life for a reason.
Actually, I'm ashamed to admit that now. That was over 20 years ago. Now I see my son has been nothing but a blessing in my life. But I didn't know that back then. And it took a while for me to realize. For most of us "special parents" it's been a process and a journey. Even Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins had a hard time accepting his son's disability when he was first born. I remember reading his story with a great sense of relief. It took him a while to come to terms with his son's disability.

So rather than hurl barbs at any parent who may be facing the harsh news, the grief & loss of the "perfect child" they had envisioned during pregnancy and perhaps even had during the first couple of years, why not lend some words of encouragement & support. How did you get through? Where did you find support? How is your life with your child today? What can he expect his future will look like with his child?
My son has a great sense of humor. He loves McDonalds & anything to do with trains. He played soccer and softball and bowled on a league for years. He still loves to bowl. He's in a work study program with the public school system. He goes to dances. We have a large circle of families & he has many friends, special and 'normal;, who recognize him & say "HI" wherever we go. He loves his sisters & his niece & nephew and is a daddy's boy. And most of all, he is very much loved by everyone in his family!
ETA: Perhaps parents of special needs children who relinquish do so b/c they feel they aren't up to the task of parenting their child...? |

The majority of children who are diagnosed with "autism" today are children who are actually vaccine injured, and can be recovered.
Their immune systems cannot handle the onslaught of the mandated 33 vaccines (and three mercury filled flu shots recommended) before the age of 3. Therefore, their immune system shuts down, which creates fungus & bacteria in the GI tract, which affects the nervous system.
That's what Big Pharma likes to call the "mystery of autism". There is no mystery. Today's 'autism' is toxic metals poisoning. There is no such thing as a genetic 'epidemic'. There are only environmental epidemics. How else can you explain that 1 in 94 boys are diagnosed with "autism"? Polio was considered an 'epidemic'. At its height, it only affected 1 in 4,000. So, no, is not not a mental disorder, flaw, disease or whatever Big Pharma (and their lobbyists at the FDA and CDC) would like us to believe.
Immune system is overwhelmed>>Gastrointestinal system severely compromised>>>nervous system shows "autistic" symptoms. Start repairing these seemingly invisible 'issues', and SUPRISE! The "autism" disappears!

Well Leon.....they let people with mental flaws obtain type ratings so what makes you think relinquishing a child with autism would be anymore difficult.
ETA.......ask Karma this question when you're landing. |

there are no requirements to give a child up for adoption...
because the child is special needs it may take longer for the child to be adopted.
Why would you want to give your child up though? |

hi yes you can put a child up for adoption if they suffer with autism meany people are looking to give a child a loving caring home. no matter what there like . but all i can say is think long and hard about it first i was adopted when i was a baby and found it hard to come to terms with . |
|

Who knows
 |
You're a sick man for asking that question! It would be YOUR CHILD!!! How can you, no matter what is "wrong" with them!?!?!? How could you just toss your kid away!?!??!?!?!?! |
|

I Love A Child With Autism!!!
 |
Yes, and hopefully you will. Anyone so callous enough to ask this question does not deserve to be the parent of such a precious gift.
I just have to tell you that if you were standing by me right now you would be picking your teeth up off the floor. I pity the children who are dealt a$$holes like you for parents! |
|

mom to be
 |
You could but that is totally different than if you should. I would suggest if you have a child with autism you find ways to help the child rather than giving them away. Children with autism need extra support and perhaps you should seek help through your school district or a support group. A great link to check out is www.autismspeaks.org. |

You can give a child up for adoption for any reason really. If you don't feel capable of handling a child's issues, don't want to be a parent, etc.
It doesn't make it right but you aren't prohibited because of any issues the child has. |

Are you serious? One of my children has autism and I wouldn't give him up for anything. However, if you are the type of person to hate your children for their disabilities, please give them to someone who will love them no matter what. |

Yes, plenty of people do.
If you don't want your kid, it's best to give it up because there are plenty of people who just want a child regardless of what "issues" it may have.
Also, haven't you ever seen that family with 27 kids? (NOT the Duggars)-they've adopted 17 kids all with mental disorders from very mild to very severe.
I'd adopt a child with Autism. |

You can place a child for adoption for any reason. To give up ones child simple because they have some sort of disorder seems very cruel. That said it does take a special person to parent a child that has some issues. It could take a while to find someone willing to adopt the child since most people prefer to have a child that is virtually healthy. I read an article of a couple all of their kids (6 or 7) had autism and various ranges. The man had two children from another marriage who did not have autism. |

hmmm...this is very interesting. I've wondered if this was possible, too. Not because I would do it, but i think it's an interesting topic that the media should pick up. Like how often do people give up children because of their mental disabilities and how can we as a society intervene to help these children? |
|

 |
Yes, you can give up any child. |
|

durdenslabs
 |
Of course you can! Any child can be given up for adoption. At least it's better than abortion. These children will now get a chance at life with a loving/caring/supportive family and not be killed because of their "mental" problems. |

it is not a mental flaw or mental disorder it is a neurological disorder. it does not necessarily have to be considered a bad thing. i have autism and i graduated from college...many of us can do great things...i am working towards that. research temple grandin...autistic, did not talk until 4...has her doctorates, writes books and travels all over the usa doing talks. the best thing you can do before making this decision is research, meet other parents of teens and adults with autism...ask questions. |
