Yes. Once someone becomes an adult, they can be legally adopted as long as both parties agree. It's a simple legal procedure and doesn't require any consent from the biological family. Adults can make their own choices about the families they want to form.

There are all kinds of reasons an adult might want to adopt another adult, ranging from providing the love and family support the person didn't have as a child using the adoption as added emotional security, to the more mundane reason of ensuring the right of inheritance if a will is contested, and everything in between. There is nothing standing in the way of one adult adopting another if the two are so inclined.

If you live in the US, you can, because they are considered an adult and you will only need their permission not their parents. I hope this helps and good luck.

In many areas you can. It's normally done for estate planning or for sentimental reasons, both of which are just as valid to the people involved.

That depends on the state.

In California, any competent adult (over 18) can adopt any consenting, competent adult at least ten years younger than themselves. So one could be adopted at 65, but only by someone at least 75 years old.

A friend of mine actually recently finalized adoption of the woman she raised from infancy. She had to wait until until her "baby" was 21 to proceed in her state (PA or NJ, I forget which state she actually lived in back then) as the courts allowed the girl to remain in legal limbo until then.

Each state has their own laws about this. Please see the attached link for all the information.

As others have said, once a person reaches 18, they are no longer a child.

But then as it always is with adoption, once an adoptee, always a child.

no, they are adults and no longer a dependant on a parent

Why would you adopt an 18 year old. They're a legal adult then.
