Changing Baby's names?

We have adopted a nine month old baby, and are thinking about changing the middle and last name. The middle name would be a name we like, and the last ours (of course!). Is this okay? It is an open adoption and the parents have no objections and he already responds to his birth name and we would not want to confuse him or make it harder than it already is.

If everyone consents to it, then it shouldn't be a problem, you're keeping the child's first name. From other adoptee's in real life that I know, they liked it that their adoptive parents gave them a middle name too. (still keeping their original first name.) A bit of each family. He shouldn't be confused if its a middle name and surname change, a first name I could understand being confusing since its used constantly. |

The last name will change because you are adoption him. What about adding the middle name you chose to his original name? My kids have 2 middle names just because I liked it that way. |

This is the wrong place to ask advice like that. I think that is fine though. If it was not okay, it would not be legally possible. Good luck with your role as parents |

You have to do it in a court. You will have documents showing that the legal name change was made. |

I have more respect for my adoptive parents because they honored my name. I love them for that and would've been peeved if they'd gone and changed my name.
Folk around these parts seem to think if a baby is young, they won't care about a name change. Newsflash people, those babies grow up and, it means a great deal that my parents honored the one thing I had left of my original identity. |

Then why do you want to change his name at all. Too bad if you don't like it.

You mean its clear to them they have no rights to their child.
Curious as to why you want to change the name "after" the baby was adopted. Didn't want to appear too pushy, scare the natural parents off and end up without a baby?. |
