Are volunteers allowed in group homes to tutor the children?
Thank you for your help.

Children in foster homes usually attend public schools, and can receive tutoring. Some children in state care are in group homes specifically for children with special needs. Depending on the issues involved, these children may go to specialized schools. Here in California, for example, we have many group homes for children with severe emotional disabilities (SED.) Most of them attend the schools affiliated with the group homes in which they lives, rather than attending the regular public schools in their areas. |

They do attend public schools as long as they aren't a threat.
Volunteers must be allowed in group homes. Random people are allowed in. My friend was in a group home and I went and saw him all the time. He came and saw me too. |

Yes they do attend public schools and as for the tutoring you would have to contact the group home and see if they will allow it.. |

In my personal experience and that of close friends who have also fostered we have all had children in our homes who go to public school. We have also had one who went to a private school, paid for by the Department, and one who went to a local Muslim school, also paid for by the department. A little over two years ago these fostering friends of mine also had one child who, due to various disabilities, was home schooled by a qualified tutor.
In my area at least, it all depends upon the needs of the child. In fact, they do what they can to avoid disruptions in schooling to the extent that the children are bussed to their regular schools regardless of where their foster home is so that they maintain the same social ties and the same level of schooling they had all along or before entering foster care. |

My Friend works in a group home and they go to whatever school they went to before coming in and the staff take them. As for tutors if they need tutors they get them through the school usually |

It depends on the group home. Some have school in the group home themselves and some bus the kids to public school. It all depends on the kind of group home it is. The best thing is just to call and ask the place you want to volunteer. |
