Hi Jessica,

You are in luck since you are a Kansas adoptee. Kansas is one of 2 states that has always had equal access laws for adult adoptees to their original birth certificates. The other is Alaska.

This first link is the site which will provide information on how to request yours from the Kansas Department of Health & Environment in Topeka:

http://www.kdheks.gov/vital/birth.html

Here's another one you can try online: http://birth-certificates.net/kansas.htm

Request your original birth certificate just as any other citizen can do. Pay the nominal fee. When it arrives, your natural parent's names will be listed on it. Once you know that, it is far easier to locate them. If you would like other adult adoptees to talk to, come join us for support at http://www.adultadoptees.org We have lots of ideas on what to do next once you know who you are looking for.

Other ideas for you:

Register with International Soundex Reunion Registry
http://www.isrr.net

Contact the adoption agency your adoptive parents went through to obtain whatever they have in their files (usually non-identifying information, & you have my blessings getting anything from them, but it's worth a try.) You could also leave a notorized letter in your file with them stating you are interested in contact with your relatives. Good luck. Hugs,

There are things you can do, but much depends upon the state in which you were adopted. The laws are different in every state. Please expand your question to include the state in which your adoption occurred, so that you can receive more specific responses.

Non-state specific things you can do include signing up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry at http://www.isrr.net and requesting non-identifying information. It's available in all states. Identifying information is readily available in some states.

Again, please post the state in which your adoption finalized so you can get some responses that fit your situation.

Hi,

I don't know if things were different when you were born then they are now. This is worth a shot though. My husband and I are interested in adopting. I know that the birthmothers has to feel out some information. Most of it is medical related. I don't know if they had to do this when you were born or not but, maybe. If you really want to know find the adoption lawyer that did your adoption and see if they will let you know about the medical information. Since it is closed if you ask and tell them they call take the name and any information about who she is off of it could you have the rest of the info. Good luck.

Love,
Michelle

It should already be on your medical file. Ask your doctor.
