Consent hearing was successful, does he still have rights?

I am going through an adoption in Michigan right now, my husband is adopting my daughter and her father is signing off his rights, he has already went before the judge and has agree to sign his rights over so that my husband can adopt her. Does he still have rights/parenting time after this? Or does the adoption need to be finalized?

WOW! You just can't wait to be rid of him can you? Your poor child. Since you have chosen a man other than her father you just expect her to as well don't you? |

no, he does not have rights. Until the adoption is final, his only recourse would be to show fraud or duress. |

From what I have seen, once he signs off his rights are severed. They "transfer" to your husband, or are assumed by him, once the adoption is finalized. Until that time, you're it. |

once he signs his termination of parental rights paperwork in front of a judge or other court official then it a done deal. But every state has a grace period or appeal time it case he wishes to appeal this or if this was done illegally. Then an adoption can take place. In Wisconsin the grace period is 30 days. |

Legally, I think until the judge finalizes the adoption he still has rights.
When I adopted my step daughter, the lawyer told us that the birth mother had to pay child support until the adoption was finalized. Until the judge signed the final decree, the birth mother was still the legal mother with all the rights and responsibilities of a mother. |
