I'm sorry to hear about your nephew but in order to take custody of him you will need to show that you qualify under the standards of your State.

In most cases that will mean that you:
- are of mature age (normally 21 or more);
- are financially stable and secure enough to care for a child;
- are living in a suitable home that can accommodate the child;
- do not have a criminal record (this applies to anyone else living with you as well);
- are stable in any personal relationship you may be in. In some areas this means that you are married but it depends upon the State you live in.

There are other requirements as well depending upon your State however the ones above, off the top of my head, are the common ones for most areas.

I would never say that it's not going to be possible for you to get custody but it will most likely be difficult. Try to speak with the boy's case worker and see if he/she can tell you what his status is and what the future plans may be. The worker can also give you an impression of what you may or may not be able to help with.

Best of luck.

in our state you have to be licensed for foster care..even if its a family member.
so you may want to investigate that. there are classes that have to be taken to be certified.

good luck. wonderful move to try to keep your family together. big thumbs up

first i would contact them and see what they would like for you to do such as parenting classes and creating a network of family and friends to help you and your nephew i would also join a church and share your story with those around you who are willing to help also make sure you have a safe place to live and a steady job do you have childcare if not contact your local workforrce office about susidized childcare if you show cps that you are serious by your actions they will work with you to keep your family together remember they are on your side if you are doing the right things

blondie...ttc 4yrs and counting.

You need to have a stable secure job, a safe clean place to live, be finacially capable of supporting you and a child, not have a prior felonies, contact your nephews case worker and discuss it with them.
