Do any other adoptees have a tremendous bond with pets?

I have always even before I knew I was adopted had an extreme love for pets. In my mind I have always always thought that pets knew how I felt because they where also taken away from their mothers and we just had a kind of bond that was inceperable. I still have that same love and always thought I should have been a vet. Is it just me or does anyone else feel that way? just curious.

Forgive me for saying this, but when I see the animal rescue commercials on tv it brings tears to my eyes and I would rather give to them then to the so called starving children that they show, who already know how to pose for the camera. I just feel that pets, regardless of what kind, are inocent creatures. If they are not wild, they can not fend for themselves. Sort of like a child who is innocent, did not ask to be here, and can not say he wants to be with his mother regardless of what she's going threw.

I was not adopted, but a foster kid. The only real bond I have is with my dogs and cats. I rescued all of them from the streets or the pound.
They accept me unconditionally, never want to hurt me, and in most cases, won't leave me. Perfect relationship!

I never had any pets growing up (foster families weren't allowed), but as soon as I got out on my own and could afford one, I got one....and then another, and another....

Sometimes I think the only reason I live is too take care of them. If something happened to them....i just don't know.

I'm not adopted so I can't speak with authority, but this was a real eye-opener. I never realized that adopted children and pets had been "taken away" from their mothers and I never thought of adopted children as pets. While growing up though, I'm still pretty sure I had a special bond with my pets, too.

Yes, I have a great fondness for animals; dogs and horses especially. I love my dog and he's a great companion, but I really feel the strongest bond with the horses; even ones that aren't mine, I still bond very easily with and understand very well.
I don't think in my case that I feel like that because of being adopted, as I loved animals long before I was adopted. But as an adult, I do think my fondness for strays is because of that ;) I'll take in anything and take care of it until I find it a home. Some of my clients joke that they can't come in without going home with another pet.
I'm very lucky that I have a job that allows me to work with animals and kids all the time; my two greatest joys.

actually, i could never be a vet because i can't handle animals in pain.

i have a very tight relationship with my service dog. she's the one true love of my life.

an interesting thing about working animals.....i went to a sled dog race last feb. and you should see how well those dogs are treated. their diet is unreal. they eat better than most humans!

same for herding dogs and k9 police. have you ever seen a police dog's funeral?

and this is true for dogs that work for the deaf, blind, wheelchair users, etc.

if you don't treat a working animal well, they don't perform well. my dog gets treated extremely well nd is exceptionally happy. i would do anything for her. she's so sweet and so loyal.....i just can't imagine my life without her!

I wasn't adopted but I always knew something was different about me. I found out my dad isn't really my dad when I was 15 (imagine that) but this question struck me. I have always been so passionate about animals, particularly cats. I honestly can bond with a cat more so than a human. My husband thinks I love our cat more than I love him (not true, well maybe somewhat lol). I do not know what it is but I am just way more sensitive to cats and I just don't know where it comes from. If it were possible for me to take in every stray cat I saw, you'd hear about me on the news. And I definitely felt like I should have been a vet or at least something to do with animals.

Oh my... YES.

Dogs for me. From the day I was born, dogs are my emotional refuge. I've always felt as if I know when they're in pain, and they know the same for me. When I turned 18, I even became an ASPCA volunteer and currently participate in animal rights organizations. Now whether this has anything to do with being an adopted child, I don't know. Perhaps, but not always. But it's a good thing, be proud you carry compassion.

Oh I know the commercials you're talking about and they are so sad! I agree with you about giving money to care for animals. I was adopted by a family that loves pets so I do think that part of the reason I love them so much is because of the environment in which I was raised, however a part of that probably is because they are also "adopted" and subconsciously I relate to them. As my sister says, pets are more "fur people" than animals in our family.

Just a Mom
My kids were horrible to our pets! We don't have any right now and I don't know if we will ever be able to because of allergies...maybe a fish or two, but the last fish we had, T gave him pepperoni pizza and he died.

I am an adoptive parent. Me and my mom and grand mom feel so passionately for animals that it hurts us all. I am from India where animals are generally feared and unloved and mistreated. To see millions of strays on the Indian roadside, especially if they look very skinny with bones showing and some with diseases just puts us all in pain.
I have rescued and adopted 2 strays.
My mom feeds atleast 15 strays outside her house everyday and gets to hear the neighbours cuss at her for inviting the strays into the neighbourhood.
I understand the pain you feel. My favourite charity too is animal charity , and second are the other charities.
