There is no recommendation, we had to have new birth certificates. They say it is a privacy issue with the First parents.

I just don't feel right having a piece of paper saying I gave birth to my children. It feels wrong.

Oh lol and LOL. It's a "recommendation" is it? That's funny. I was under the impression that it was automatic. Can you please cite references that prove it is only recommended? Without knowing I am unable to answer your question but would so love to.

I've never seen it as a recommendation in either of the areas I have adopted in, in Canada. Its something that is just done as part of the adoption process and any name change is also done during the adoption process, not at the time of getting the amended birth certificate.

From the research I have been doing, here in Canada, once the adoption is finalized you apply for a birth certificate, and can legally change the child's name if you choose to at this time.Usually around 18 months to 2yrs
