are portrayed negatively or positively in the media? Additional Details Very interesting - adoption and adopted people continue to be sensationalized and maligned in the media. I've got to run but this could be a very interesting ongoing discussion.
But I do agree that that Juno portrayal was not negative, which was really refreshing!

The media farts rainbows and kitty cats all over adoption. I'm pretty sure they are given kool-aid through an IV before they deal with adoption in any way. Far too positive. |

Of course positively. TV is all about fiction or "staged" reality just for the desperate viewers wanting to get a baby they can't conceive on their own. |

[You cannot read my answer because of the lunatics using and misuing this site, so why would I post my IM info here?]
... what?
You don't need to post your IM info here. If you have your IM option turned on, all it says is "e-mail [username]." Not your e-mail address or your age or anything confidential like that. : Unless that's not what you were asking and can clarify?
And to answer your question: I think they are portrayed positively in the media. Like all the time.
ETA: Andraya, you made me laugh and almost spit my ice cream all over the keyboard. |

As far as International Adoption is concerned, I believe the media portrays that all you have to do to make your adoptee feel bonded to their roots is buy them a couple of stuffed animal pandas.
And take lots of professional pictures of them with said pandas and splash them around everywhere.
The more places the better. It's fun to exploit adoptees.
According to how the media portrays things, it doesn't even matter where they come from in Asia. Korea, China, who cares?! Pandas connect everyone to their culture don't you know.
At least that's what the media tells us.
Adoption is wonderful...now bring on the PANDAS!
Pandas make it all ok.
Meg Ryan says so. |

I believe that people who PRETEND to be adopted to shill for the NCFA have done an effective job of portraying adoption as a positive thing.
Congratulations on a job well done! |

I have yet to see adoption portrayed negatively in the media, except for cases where children have been returned because of 'bad behavior' (which of course is the adoptees fault that they grew up in an institution and have RAD or PTSD or whatever). |

In one of your remarks you stated, "But the truth is that people who were adopted and adjusted well are invisible in the adoption community."
Thank you for explaining your obviously visible presence in the online adoption community. |

tragic teacup thinks adoption is prtrayed as a good thing.
unless it is about the grown adoptee looking for birth mother, or vice versa, then it is portrayed in a negative light. Adoptee looks like an unstable stalker or birth mother is portrayed as a drug user or alcoholic. |

I agree with most everyone here that is made to look like "the best thing ever!" There is this show on tv called Adoption Stories and it is always this mushy lovey-dovey thing. Horrible, if you ask me. The only negative thing I saw was that lifetime movie about baby jessica and it was the first parents who were portrayed as monsters. |

I don't think adoption is portrayed negatively in the media. It is hardly "portrayed" at all. The most I hear about adoption is when the media covers yet another adoption by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I have heard recent news coverage about unethical adoption of children internationally- as in- the children were kidnapped from their mothers, or bought from their poverty stricken parents. But the later was touched on so briefly, hardly at all. I think there are good and bad adoptions. I don't think it's fair to paint them all with the same brush. I know personally several adults who were adopted as infants and my girlfriend was adopted at age 4. They are happy and well adjusted. I think there are alot of anti-adoption folk on Y/A though. |
