You don't have to be married.....and the requirements are the ability to give a child a secure and loving home.
It's one of the best things you can do but it takes alot to get there. Questions, inspections, reports. The guidelines are getting tighter and tighter and you'll be asked all sorts of questions as will your family. But just remember that it's nothing personal they are just trying to make sure that everything checks out before they place a child with you.....they should sometimes ask these questions of some natural parents before they are allowed to bring up their kids!! |

Hi there I am single, in my 30s and have adopted in the UK. It took 3 years, and being single wasn't a hinderance. Go for it! |

No, you do not need to be married to adopt a child all you need is a clean record and evidence that you will be able to manage the child.
Good luck |

Im not sure about adoption but to foster you can be single, married or whatever, u just need a spare room and be able to support the child and the obvious checks have to be clear of course! |

You can be single, male or female, gay or straight, employed or un-employed.
But you must meet certain requirements:
You must have a spare room
a CRB check.
The ability to care for a child, because a child is for life! |

It helps to be married but single people, people living with their partners or civil partners can all adopt.
The thinks that social services will look for are:
Are you financially secure? Do you have a steady income? Do you own your own home (this helps but you can adopt if you rent)? Do you have enough room for a child? Do you already have children and if so how old are they (if you already have children they tend to want the adoptee to be younger as keeping it in birth order makes it easier on the kids)? Will you have enough time to raise a child (it helps if one parent doesn't work or works part-time)? What support network will you have around you (extended family, close friends)? What parenting style do you plan to use? How will you make your home safe for children? |
