Do you know about open adoption?
|
i have been "openly adopted" which is a form of adoption which is very rare. i've completly got my head around the concept and have done for years, however im interested to see what you people know about the process if anything and what you think of it.....
PS. be as judgmental as you want you cant offend me.

i believe that open adoption is the best for the birth mother. they can see how much their child grows without actually being in the picture. i know it sounds harsh but lets say you gave your baby up for adoption because you were too young. well with open adoption you can see the baby live a fulfilled life and not always wonder where your child is and how they are doing and what they look like.
open adoption may not be so good for the adoptive parents though because some people dont want the first parents involved with the childs life just because it was their decision to give them up and they shouldnt be able to be in their life and they should face their consequences. so if there is an open adoption, it may or may not cause tension with the two families.
as an adoptee, i think open adoption is the way to go. i was in a closed adoption and honestly i dont like it. everyday i have to wonder where my other family is and what they are doing. do i look like them? are they looking for me? i have problems with my medical history. going to doctors is so hard because they dont know your medical history in a closed adoption. being born in croatia, it is so hard to get my medical history. so because of this, i will most likely never get it, and i will never know what my future will be like medical wise- will i have cancer? will i have a heart attack? all these things i cannot prevent; i'll have to wait until it actually happens to me. i wont be able to tell my kids what their medical history is either which puts them in danger as well.
hope this helped |

I Love A Child With Autism!!!
 |
I am currently involved in an open adoption. My daughter's natural mother is a very big part of our lives. I love it because they get to be a family, albeit not the conventional family, but still share in each others lives. It is greatly beneficial to my daughter as well, she will know her heritage, family, medical background, and any questions she may have as she grows will be answered with honestly and love from her mom. It doesn't get any better than that in an adoption situation...in my opinion anyway! |

Hi there,
Open Adoption is not as uncommon as you think it is... although the real practice of it is.
It is still adoption. Either way someone will hurt out of it.
If you want to know how I feel, read more here:

I think an open adoptin would be the best way to go. I was adopted when i was 6 and it was closed. I wish it would of been open cause i was abused.. I then would of had someone to turn to. You are lucky that you are able to grow up and be around your real mom. I found out that i had 4 other brother and sisters that i never knew about. if it would of been open then i would of known them, plus would of been able to be around me real sister. You see about a year to two years after i found my birth mom she was murdered so now she will never know her only 2 grandsons that she has. |

Im pretty sure opened adoption is where a family(most likely just the mother though) gives the baby up to a family but wants to still have rights to know whats going on and see the child...but she has no financial responsibilities.... like the child knows who their real parents or just mother or just father are its just they live with "their parents" or whatever you wanna call them....If I ever have a baby b4 im ready to this is what im going to do..so i can still see my child but i can still focus on school and the rest of my life but at the same time i will still see him or her to let them know why i did what i did and that i do love them...i wouldn't even try to raise it because i know it would be better off with a loving family who really wants a baby and is emotionally and financially ready for one...that's all i really know...lol |

I think an open adoption is a fantastic revenue for women who do give up their children for one reason or another as opposed to the closed option. A woman I know is having alot of trouble locating her daughter through a closed adoption.
(as a mother, I can't actually understand how they could possibly give up a baby which they created and has been a part of them since they were conceived) |
