i think the whole adoptions system is really bad both for parents and children. I would like to adopt a child but because i already have a son and i'm single it makes it impossible.
and adopting from abroad although a bit easier is still highly expensive and problematic?
I find this so wrong, there are hundreds of children to be adopted in uk and millions abroad that are in the worse conditions and probably will die before they reach the age of 5,so why is the system making it so hard? Additional Details well i agree with you, the waiting is snot beneficiary for either children or future parents.

I think you need to look somewhere else, Angelina jolie didnt have to wait 5 years when she adopted baby maddox. zahara, or pax |

Well they say its because they need to screen potential parents very carefully to insure that all adoptees get the best of homes and families, which would be a good thing if it were true. But in all honesty its a matter of driving up the price through supply & demand.
If you are serious about adopting try foster care, those kids have already been cleared for adoption, need homes, and are available for much less cash.
Tell everyone you know, foster care's the way to go. |

I think the adoption system is terrible for CHILDREN. I am much less concerned with the process as it is for the adoptive parents because I believe adoption is about providing children who truly need homes, with families.
I personally don't believe it is a good thing for children in Foster care who are already cleared for adoption to wait in limbo for long periods of time without a stable home. However I think it is a good thing to have a long, thorough vetting process of potential adoptive parents to ensure that these kids get the best since they have already lost so much. |

IDK!!

No, what I think is SO stupid is that GREAT KIDS have to wait 5 year to find parents (or they never do find parents). |

No, I don't think the waiting is stupid. What I think is ill-informed (not "stupid," merely mistaken) is that people expect adoption to be a service that provides them with healthy babies at their convenience.
Adoption was supposed to be about the best interests of the child, not speedy delivery to anyone who wants a kid and has the bread.
You are right that there are many needy kids out there, but they are very often not the ones the adoption agencies offer. There are many better ways to help needy children if that is your goal.
But I agree that the system is bad for children and adults. Private adoption and international adoption need major reform at best, as they encourage kidnapping and child selling for profit. |

I think that the process is bad for the children. I would really hope that parents would be mature enough to be able to handle the waiting, since there is an actual reason for it. There will always be available parents, and so long as you don't get deterred by the wait, it will happen for you too.
There are reasons for the restrictions that are put on parents wanting to foster. While I personally think that a single parent is better than no parent for most of these kids, the state is going to try to get the most stable home that they can for these kids, since many of them are going to need care around the clock.
If you are having a hard time adopting someone from foster care right now, continue your volunteer work. That is doing a lot of good for the children who may not get a chance to have a connection with an adult.
Just hang in there. |

I think it's "stupid" that people think they can bypass an already corrupt system's guidelines to get what they want.
I think it's "stupid" that people think they are entitled to adopt.
I think it's stupid that SOME pap's & ap's think adoption is about them, when it's supposed to be about a child.
I think it's stupid that people think there are "millions" of children who will die before the age of 5 waiting for parents. If you want to "save a child", call Sally Struthers.
I think it's stupid that people pay upwards of $30,000.00 for a womb wet infant, when that practice takes away from the kids who truly need homes- foster kids.
Sometimes waiting is a GOOD thing, but maybe not for the adoptive parents. Its always good if the waiting is because the childs first parents are trying to better their situations in hopes of having their family together again. |
