Do you think the state will end up taking octo mom's kids?

This is not an argument if they should but do you think they will.
She has no income and her food stamps are about to run out. Soon the kids will have nothing to eat unless people donate. Do you think they will constitute neglect.

Dear R,
I don't know that they will take her kids but I do think that they need to be involved - BEFORE the octuplets come home. There are multiple reasons why that I won't list because everybody and their brother know about them.
Nadya has turned down the "Angels in Waiting" offer to provide her with 24/7 care and a home large enough for her whole family, reportedly because she will not be allowed to do "a reality show and bi-weekly press conferences". Gloria Allred as well as a prominent child therapist have both filed extensive complaints with CDYFS.
As far as I am concerned, Nadya's actions clearly show that she is not actually interested in making sure her children are cared for properly. IMO, she needs a case plan that includes getting a job, parenting classes and intensive therapy if she is going to even have a shot at parenting all of these children.
JMHO.
ETA: Autumn (and anyone else who wants it), Here is a link to one of the multiple news articles about her dismissal of the offer:
http://laist.com/2009/02/28/if_you_cant_get_me_my_14_kids_on_tv.php
There are a zillion if you do a news search.
Her new "volunteer publicist" has said that he didn't know the offer was out there in one interview (yeah, right, it was in the friggin' news, buddy!) and that no one had responded because they were "too busy preparing for the octuplet's release" in another. (?!)
Gloria Allred did an interview this morning about it on one of the morning shows too.
ETA2: Wow! Kitta, that is crazy! What is really interesting to me is that these "religious" people are using SCIENCE to create these situations. The Catholic Church CONDEMNS creating life in this way. That's one of the reasons why no one is using these people as poster children for the anti-abortion movement. http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2009/feb/28/octomom-no-hero-abortion-foes/?partner=RSS
These are simply situations that should have NEVER BEEN. There is NO good solution. The children are the ones who suffer "the sins of their parents" (to borrow some religious phrasing) in cases like these. |

She has a person in the state of Indiana that has offered to take her in and all of her children. And are willing to support her and her kids. I know as a single person all by herself she can not take proper care of 8 newborns and 6 other children with 3 reportedly already disabled. She would have to have lots of help not to be neglecting the needs of so many children. I don't know if the state will end up taking them or not. If the state takes them though that is more money Tax payers have to pay to support her children. |

No. As too many people have said here, lack of financies is hardly a good reason to relinquish. In the end though, these babies as well as the others kids will be provided for in cash and gift donations. CPS should make a few unannouced visits, seeing as the kids have been televised for all to see already. As long as they are living under a roof, with adequate sleeping areas, are giving 3 whole meals a day (I'm sure WIC will be available) and walk around in dirty diapers, no neglect and no abuse... what reason would state have in removing them? |

Suleman is not the first to use the fertility industry to produce many babies, and more than once. And even having a husband/partner is no guarantee of sufficient income.
Here is but one example:
In the 1980s, the Frustaci's, a married religious couple, used fertility drugs and brought 7 ill babies into the world. Then they sued their fertility clinic.
When the lawsuit was settled, awarding the Frustaci's millions, Mrs Frustaci was again pregnant via IVF with twins.

eta: mamakate, I think that in some countries the fertility industry is limiting the number of embryos/zygotes that can be introduced into the woman per cycle. The large numbers of babies born to some women in the USA is due to the large numbers of introduced embryos/zygotes...which is, of course, unregulated.
eta2: The Kienast quints were another sad story. Mr Kienast, the father, committed suicide years later, after years and years of struggle.
eta3: in the 19th century, large family groups of unemployed kids would have been farmed out to relatives or others. Child labor was a source of income.,as soon as they could work,on the farms and in the mills, or in the fine homes that the well to do people owned...some worked as nannies or nursemaids or even little teachers. This was far better than working in the mines, which was dangerous.
This is still happening today as certain countries send young women and men to foreign countries to obtain summer work. Some workers do gain employment. Others do not seem to gain their expectations, and appear to be on the dole, scrounging for a place to stay as well as work. |

Being intentionally impregnated with that many embryos at one time could be considered child endangerment. (I'm sure that's a gray area.) Carrying eight children at one time is almost a guarantee of lifelong health problems for the children. Add to that six minor children already in her care, no job, and no stable living situation, and the state shouldn't have any problem making a case if that's what they decide to do. State intervention of some sort is looking more and more likely. |

Sooner or later, yes.
The "octomom" can only rely on star power for a short time. We Americans are notoriously fickle and have short memories. She's a "flash in the pan" and it won't be long before the next big thing captures all the media attention.
Unless there is more to her than what the media has been releasing, I think it's just a matter of time. |

From what you say MamaKate this woman is a media hog and just wants the attention. You can tell that Michelle Duggar is the same way that she loves being on the cameras but at least the Duggars aren’t in dept and actually have jobs. This is very sad there are for more people who are more deserving then this lady.
As far as if they will take the kids who knows they should keep their eye on her though thats for sure. |

I think they should either take them away from her or make her hire some nannies for the babies. I have 2 kids and a single mother and I know how hard it is to take care of my two with me working and raising them myself. I think that she should be made to get out and get a job to help raise these babies. I do not know how she is going to do it cause 3 of her other children are reported to have disorders. And then have 8 newborn babies to take care of. And the 8 will have to have alot of attention where they are preemies. So I do believe that the state should step in on this one and do something about it. |

Nope. She's going to have a reality show. I heard that this morning. She will make enough money, and get benefits for health insurance for herself and HER babies.
No one is going to starve. Except the people who are already decorating their nurseries for one of her kids. Aint gonna happen.
Even if they would, some big shot lawyer will step in, pro-bono, sue the clinic, then get a fund started.
Unfortunately, she is a media "star" right now. The state will have to tread very lightly with this. I really do not think they will even try. |

I know a lot of people think I'm against adoption but I'm not just do it right. I feel about this case is Yes the children should be adopted out but to people that would understand that their are brother's and sisters and that they should see each other and their bio mom and family members. Why you ask she has no family support. Her mom acts like she doesn't want the children and it's most likely because she has her hands full with the other 6 children , that some are disabled. I know having a child with disabilities is hard and the child need special care and Patience. When i had my last child and she was deaf I didn't have anymore because i knew she would need me more and it wouldn't be fair to another child. My daughter is the youngest and their is 7 years between my middle and her so we all loved her even more. That's why I think that they should go to homes. Not foster care but true family's.
But like I said they should have it in writing that they are to see there Brother and sister and bio family once a month. Why this woman doesn't want help is that she would not be able to make profit from the children that's why she had them. If any money goes the children's way it needs to go in a trust fund. I feel for the other children you know that they have to be feeling left out. |

I had heard the hospital taking a first step, saying they might not
release the children to her if she doesnt have a plan for these kids,
Dr.phil had an interview with her, even he says that shes kinda
delusional on what shes doing. I still quite dont understand my CPS
hasnt stepped in, when parents have mental problems or have some
kinda addiction first they take the children and meanwhile the parent
has to get help and then reunite the children if possible, why wait?
This could lead to a woman being overwhelmed or depressed and
committing a tragedy, weve seen it many times on tv, woman cuts off
childs arms, woman drowns 4/5 kids, woman beat her children to
death with rocks, are we waiting for something to happen?
If I were a case worker I would be evaluating this empty void that she
wants to fill and it hasnt been. I know its not easy to be judging her
but she made a decision that revolver around many other people also. |

Honestly, yes. I am *not* saying this is what SHOULD happen, but at this rate, she has no proper means to care for them. People are not willing, nor can they afford, to help her.
Honestly, I think that if they take them, it is a mistake. Instead of paying foster parents to care for them, they should give her that money. While I believe that her actions were highly irresponsible, to say the least, I do not see her abusing or neglecting them if she had the resources to properly care for them.
ETA: Wow MamaKate! I did not know that. If that is true, forget what I said... |

yes they have too. she has no way of supporting them let alone the ones she already has. they would be putting those children in danger. i am guessing foster care and visits for her. |

I think its immature for you or anyone else to refer to her as Octo anything.
Like many people that suffer from "infertility" she has emotional/mental problems. Too bad they are not required to be addressed before they are allowed to adopt and/or have IVF.
Sounds like she has an addiction to babies. She's not the only....look how many women are having litters of babies due to IVF and their unaddressed mental issues. |
|

Totally. She either has to give them up, get a job, or get a hubby. I mean why would you want to have 8 kids while you already have like 6 others, and you don't have a man to help! I think they should take her kids for their sake... |
