I was in the mental hospital for 2 weeks at 14 years old and was on Depakote and Paxil. Then I went to another mental hospital at 15 for 3 weeks and was on Zoloft and Paxil.

Most people do not put down anything medical that occurred while they were children. I don't blame them. These decisions should be based on your most recent mental and physical history. |

I would hope that any (dis)qualifiers re health (be it mental or physical health) would relate only to current state of health --not past health. As long as you have your depression/anxiety under control now ... I don't see how it would be anyone's business. I was hospitalized for double pneumonia in my early 20s . Then, I was in no shape to care for a child. Now, almost over a decade later ... I am ready!! |

I don't see how they can,you were younger and i am not sure those record's are even accessible.There was a couple that i knew and they both had issues from the past and they were able to adopt.Talk to a lawyer before you talk to any adoption agency.Best of wishe's and i will keep you in my prayer's. |

I can't see any reason for disqualification UNLESS there is convincing evidence that the drugs used may result in instability at some point of time LATER.
Moreover, as long as you have a spouse to share the adoption, I can't see enough convincing grounds for disqualification.
Also, the examiners should consider, what is the type of instability they are apprehending. If it is of a dangerous order i.e. can result in endangering of the adopted children or the spouse, then it is a different case. But as long as the expected instability is NOT in dangerous order, I cannot see a reason for disqualification.
I guess a physicians opinion regarding the instability is needed.
