Does anyone else find Angelina's ads for her new movie ironic?

I am particularly offended by her impassioned plea from the ad where she says, "I want MY son back!!" since I lost a son to adoption. I just find this selection odd considering her history of not being particularly careful about the parentage of her adopted children. SMAAC has announced a boycott of this movie, we are so outraged with the choice of Jolie for this role.

Dear Sly,

Oh, thank you, thank you for posting this question! I thought I was the only one who's stomach almost rejected my lunch when I saw her wail that line on the preview. Irony is an understatement! I too, was TERRIBLY insulted. I was horrified and disgusted to hear those words uttered from her bee-stung lips. How insulting to anyone who has ever lost a child - to kidnapping, adoption or otherwise, to have a woman who feels that children are "collectibles" play this role. DREADFUL CASTING CHOICE, IMO.

Believe it or not, there was a time when I used to be an AJ fan! She and I are the same age and for a long time I related to her - even during her weird Billy Bob Thorton escapades. I loved her in "Hackers" and thought she was brilliant in "Girl, Interrupted". But when she started collecting children and I realized how far from reality she lives, I stopped watching anything with her in it.

As a former professional actress, I understand that she is playing a role and that she is "doing her job" as another poster pointed out. HOWEVER, I can not believe that she would have the BALLS to play such a role and still not see that she has caused the same feelings in another mother. How dense and blind can one be?! I would have thought that any research she did to better play this role would have caused a light to go off. Apparently, there is a major short in her circuits which does not allow empathetic emotions for others.

I realize that she has done things to show concern for those in other countries who are suffering but I have often wondered about her motivations. While I can appreciate and even respect her talent, I absolutely despise her morals and her flippant attitude about adoption and will not pay to see this movie nor any other in which she performs; since I cannot support her actions in real life. I am glad I am not alone in my feelings.

Thanks again, Sly, for letting me know that I am not the only one to see the lack of thought here! I think my reactions echo your sentiments exactly and I hope that someday she will be "enlightened" about the true nature of adoption and will do her best to rectify her thoughtless towards her children.

oh man, sly- i hear that. but i don't think she's quite intelligent enough to "get it".

i laughed hysterically when i saw the preview for that movie.. since shes good at taking other peoples kids, and never seems to be able to have all of her nine million kids at one time... i can't stand her...

Not Adopted
I doubt she will make the connection.

Freckle Face
Hi Sly,

I did find it a rather odd movie choice for her. I chuckled at the irony when i heard her yell that line in a commerical. Just out of good taste i boycott her movies anyway. Yeah, i don't think she has a clue, sadly its her children who will suffer from her ignorance.

Heather Leigh
I thought the same thing when I saw the previews.

She doesn't have a problem collecting kids from other country's like you would shot glasses, but wants to portray a mother searching for her stolen son... I think whoever did the casting for this movie dropped the ball when they picked her for this part.

And I agree with Anastasia. Angelina probably doesn't see how ironic this is and is probably just dumb enough to wonder what the big deal is.

Well, no, i don't find it ironic. This movie is about a woman whos son was kidnapped, when he was ten and later found dead. But before that, this woman Angelina plays was told a boy found was her son, and it wasnt. She tried to get them to see that?(This is based on real life) She ended up locked up in a nuthouse, because of her insistance that that boy was not her son.Which he was not.

I get what you are trying to get at though, but i just dont see the connection between her adopting children, and this movie about an abducted child. Two different subject matters entirely.

Next to Looney's Word, let me add one:

FAME

Santa's Lil' Helper
Suprisingly Sly I have also thought this ironic.
She is a second rate actress that will not go away like a bad itch.

I think it discredits the real story behind the movie.....The real Walter Collins has never been found. And where did this other child come from? he had to have had a family.

Wow...lmao. Again, I'm odd man out. I can't wait to see this movie. Love AJ and BP and all their kids, their lifestyle, and their generous giving spirit-especially to charities around the world.
did not find it ironic at all and never even connected one with the other (seeing as this is a true story about a kidnapped child and corrupt police....hm...I JUST don't see adoption in there....) but, as everyone knows, my adoption stories differ from a lot here and even tho I've learned a lot...I still can't get all bent over things. (like I LOVED Juno-oops)

Oh well....let the thumbers rain down...*sigh*

Moose
I spit my soda out my nose when I heard that line. Not kidding.

Then I promptly forgot about it. I don't have the energy to devote to my long-lasting and severe hatred for people who use children for their own gain. Like Kr...oh wait, I'd best not go there.

:-D

Add: by the way, that second link you posted...YUCK! I nearly vomited all over my computer. Funny how those who use their own kids to meet their insecure needs don't see any problem with this kid-collector screaming out that she wants HER son back.

IDK!!
Do you have a link to the preview? I haven't seen it.

Nope. I think a ban is ridiculous. If you don't want to see it- don't.

I can't stand her and I can't stand her shack up boyfriend that keeps knocking her up. I think she is ugly. I wouldn't go see this movie if you paid me and gave me free popcorn.

No I dont. I dont see how they can "speculate" in SMAACs words anything about her motives. Its also not like she didnt birth any of her children. Are you offended because they are offended. This movie is based off of real events and I dont think they could have picked a better actress for that role. She fits very well reguardless if she has whatever number of adopted kids. Its a role in a movie not HER actual life played out on film. I think people protest everything too often. Didnt people different opinions.

ok correct me if i'm wrong but didn't she adopt her children from orphanages?

The mother gave the children up and she adopted them. She didn't steal them to my knowledge.

As others have said her role has nothing to do with how many children she has

Lost AP here with questioning look on her face.

I don't know too much about AJ except she has quite a few children, both adopted and natural. I remember hearing about a controversy with her first little boy, but then it dropped off my radar screen.

Google is giving me a hodgepodge of hits. Is there a summary of the issues with her? Thanks.
