Does anyone know how much you receive as a foster parent in California?

Please break down age compensation if you are aware! Thank you so much!

Being a foster parent (anywhere) is not a "job" that you get "paid" for. The money that is sent is for the care of the child(ren) -- and it's not enough to cover even the basic expenses. If that's what you want to get into it for, don't EVER get into it.

Forget about fostering -- get a real job.

If money is a motivating factor - you shouldn't do it.

You don't get much.

Plus, that's just $h!tty.

Yes, I know. $2 a month.

Still want to foster? Go for it.

You make me sick.

If you need money, GET A JOB.

A child is not your paycheck.

Sickening.....

And I am judging, because most of the good foster parents NEVER ask about the $$

And if you have to ask about the $$, that means that the kids are going to hear the following "No, not until the check comes."

Well, i'm resisting my first response, but i will say its a little suspect that you are asking about "compensation" as you put it. Get your head on straight and then think about fostering.

$400 to $500 a month. More for special needs children. Nothing if you are related.

Geez people. Why are you judging this person for asking a question? You have no idea what her motivations are. In today's tough economy this is an extremely relevant question. We have two relative placements in our house and we don't get paid a cent. Our costs have skyrocketed, but luckily we can afford it. I understand how finances practically figure into this decision. No, we aren't raising the kids for the money, but kids do cost a lot to raise. There is nothing wrong with weighing wether you can afford it. This is a concern especially if you have other kids. The foster care payments do not cover the expenses of raising a child but they help out. The fact that you are weighing whether or not you can afford this does not mean you are not a caring person or wouldn't make a wonderful parent. Good luck, and if you have love to give to one of these kids, go for it.
