Does anyone wish they were adopted?
|
Growing up with my family (mother father, two full siblings) I always wanted to find out I was adopted, like I would have a whole other family out there. I still loved and wanted to be with my family, I just also wanted another family too. I know a lot of people were hurt because they were put up for adoption and felt abandoned but is SOME of that just the "grass is always greener". Like wanting a twin when you don't have one, or wanting individuality when you are one? (Just a comparison don't want an answer to that one).
Anyone else wanted to be adopted, or was it just cause i watched too much, Annie, and Anne of Green Gables?

No, I had to live with an emotionally abusive mother, I didn't see much of my dad due to his work pattern (weird shifts) and my sister and I either got on very well or fought. I diddn't have want to be adopted nor did I think about it as my family were (are) still my family. Having seen the effects of being adopted has had on my son I'm glad I wasn't. Adoption in real life isn't anything like Annie or Anne of Green Gables. It can be good, it can be bad. |

Spoken like a true "non-adoptee".
The grass isn't always greener. Adoptees can be abused and mistreated just like anyone else. It doesn't guarantee a better life to be adopted. It only guarantees that you will have a different one. |

um. no.
i kinda like looking into my father's face and seeing my own, listening to my mother voice and hearing my own. knowing my history or my "breast cancer" risk because i can receive medical information with a simple phone call.
i take it you're not adopted? |

I always loved 'The Secret Garden', and fantasized myself in the story. Fantasies are fun, reality is usually not so fun. Like the reality of being adopted.
No, I never wanted to have been adopted, I want to have been aborted. |

WHY WOULD ANYONE WISH THEY WERE ADOPTED!!!! IT ISN'T NICE TO BE THE CHILD. MOST OF US HAVE TO COPE WITH THE FEELING OF ABANDONMENT AND THE UNENDING QUESTIONS OF WHY WE WERE GIVEN AWAY IF LIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OR WORSE WITH OUR BIRTH PARENTS AND THOSE ADOPTED AT AN OLDER AGE MAY HAVE TERRIBLE MEMORIES OF ABUSE. THERE IS ALSO THAT FEELING OF INFERIORITY TO NON ADOPTED SIBLINGS AND THE STRUGGLE TO DISCOVER WHO YOU REALLY ARE. YOU JUST SOUND LIKE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WITH NO REAL PROBLEMS AND JUST LOOKS FOR THE DRAMA!!! WAKE UP AND START LIVING IN THE REAL WORLD AND BE GREAT FULL WITH WHAT YOU HAVE |

I actually WAS adopted, so although this is sorta different, I know what you mean. The family I was adopted to isn't exactly ideal, but at the same time, I've found that I'm happy to have people that love me. I'm grateful for what I have and grateful to have tons of amazing friends. You can't change your bonds, only create new ones :) |

Absurd question and insensitive to those who were adopted. |

I think most kids feel that way at one time or another. |

Nope. My father was abusive. My mother is an enabler.I had to protect my brother from them. Never once did I wish I was adopted. They are my family good or bad. I seriously doubt missing your family is as simple as some silly phrase. Its a complex issue. You would do well to listen instead of dismissing people's feelings and experiences |
