Does one foster care agency have more children than perhaps another?

I guessing that an foster care agency would have as many children as the state right? Do some foster care agency carry a small amount of children VS. ones that may carry a lot of children?
I'm asking because we're only interested in Biracial children (given our family make up) so i wanted to know, since we're limiting ourselves should we go to an agency that is larger that sponsor more children to help improve our odds of finding a biracial child? Or do all the agencies in the state have the same children in their listing?

If you are going through foster care, then the agency would be the state....or a private agency. The private agency will have the same number of children, but you must pay for their services. A state run agency will have whatever children are in that jurisdiction....so if you are in a heavily black populated area, it is more likely there will be black and biracial children in that area's foster care. I would simply find out which counties are covered through my state agency and see if the demographics are different for those counties than others throughout your state. If you have a high population of white people in your area, it could take you longer, but you must also factor in the probability of white couples wanting to adopt AA or biracial children...would many white people in your area be ok with adopting a mixed race child? If so, then you will possibly wait longer, but if not, you could be one of the only families who would accept the mixed race children. Also, you can simply call your social worker and ask them to forward your completed package to an area in your state that does have a higher population of black people--if your area is heavily white. I would also contact the CPS in that area and tell them that you have completed your package and have been accepted as a perspective adoptive parent...and that you would like them to consider your information ( have your caseworkers name, email, phone info, and also have your approval number and date). This involves a lot of work on your part, b/c everyone wants to adopt out 'their' kids...so your social worker will be less than excited to send your information to another CPS/agency, but it is possible. |
